2019-01-03   HOUSE IN MALTA

The photo shows the view from my balcony of the Victoria Hotel in Malta. My time was short, due to a Christmas party, but my Google Pixel 2 did a great job with the night-sight feature.

2018-10-05   MALTA FROM MY HOTEL ROOM

From time to time I get a hotel room with a beautiful view of the city Sliema in Malta, which is worth taking a photo. In this case, I stayed in the “The Palace” hotel. With a room on the 6th floor and the right direction I took my camera out and did some shots of the buildings in the dusk.

2018-08-30   BEACH BAR IN MALTA

Most of the Maltese beaches, you’ll find on the Northern side. I can’t remember the name, but that bar was typical, Aperol-Sprizz, Hugo, and Campari with ice. Lounge chairs outside, walls covered with reeds and white sun umbrellas for the heat. The mediterranean sea is very clear; you can see the water plants, fish, and starfish with the naked eye. A friend of mine told me, last time he even saw a ray near the beach.

2018-03-19   TERRACES NEAR MDINA

On the walkway up to Mdina I did that shot of the terraces with that little city on top. Because of the heavy clouds I thought it would be raining soon, but the sun kept shining and we had a nice later afternoon in Mdina. Since I was at a work outing, we had as a program to attend at a paperchase. Getting a list of instructions to fulfill was a good opportunity to explore Mdina and its surroundings.

2018-03-02   MDINA GATE MALTA

The city Mdina is enclosed by a city wall, the photo shows the Mdina Gate as the only entry into the city. The area is very popular with film crews, parts of the movie Gladiator and episodes of Game of Thrones have been filmed there. A touristy “Games of Thrones”-tour shows you the filming-locations. Inside the city are narrow streets and high buildings, dating back to the 14th century. Currently it has a population of 236.  🙂

2018-02-16   NARROW STREETS IN MALTA

Some of the older streets in Malta fit only for pedestrians or motor scooters. They are narrow and contorted; it’s a unique experience to walk through these city-parts and look at the entry-doors and shops. This photo shows a street near Mdina. There was a famous pastizzi shop very near, they baked fresh, and people were waiting in a long line to get that specialty.

2017-12-24   CHRISTMAS IMPRESSIONS FROM EUROPE

Different styles of Christmas impressions in European cities. What they all have in common is the beautiful lighting of the night. The first photo in Venice was handheld. I did this from a water taxi, where I waited for calm water, and at the same time, I was holding my breath to reduce camera shake. 🙂  For the second I used my tripod on the staircase to the Museum of Natural history. And the third happened after going out of a Christmas party in Malta. Here I shot also handheld and fast before the street was filled with people again.

2017-11-03  FLAT LANDSCAPES OF MALTA

Malta has no mountains, some low hills, stony ground, bushes and agriculture between stone-walls. I never had the time yet, but walking through that landscape is on my agenda. I would choose fall or winter, where the temperatures are pleasant. The island gets greener and flowers blossom.

2017-10-02  MALTA RESTAURANT AT THE BEACH

Sitting in the shadow of a beautiful restaurant and looking at the beach, for many the ideal holiday dream. Since I am not the beach guy, I was there only one day shooting some photos. Malta is not well stocked with beaches; you have to drive to the north of the island.

2017-09-14  SLIEMA TO ST. JULIANS, MALTA

Beginning in Sliema, stretching to St. Julians the Malta boardwalk brings Maltese buildings, restaurants, churches, hotels and flats. A many miles walk/drive, where you can enjoy the Mediterranean climate and pleasant lightings. It surprises you with something new, around every corner. In many Maltese restaurants, they serve English beer, Guinness or John Smith, both I like.  🙂
