2019-05-08 SPEED BIKER

By |2019-05-07T19:10:25+01:00May 8th, 2019|Vienna|

The path at the Danube Canal in Vienna is a shared space, for walkers, roller skaters, and bikers. The speed bikers and the roller skaters are the most interesting to shoot. With my camera at the ready, I placed myself next to a tree at the wayside. When the next fast cyclists passed by I was ready. At slower shutter speed, I was able to capture the effect of the movement on the riders.

2019-05-06 MY SON SHOT WITH THE LEICA

By |2019-05-06T04:58:26+01:00May 6th, 2019|Vienna|

At times, I visit coffee houses in Vienna with my family. There we taste the best espressos, and I usually have my Leica on the table. After a short time, I start with portrait photos, here with the Leica Elmarit 28mm 2.8 V4.

2019-05-04 THE BIG TUNNEL OF THE WIEN(RIVER)

By |2019-05-04T08:08:34+01:00May 4th, 2019|Vienna|

The Wien(River) is not a real river, more like a broader creek. But the concrete river bed is colossal. The river flows through the middle of the city, through large tunnels. I went for a Sunday walk with my wife Karin in the city park. When Wien(River) I took the opportunity to shoot a few photos.

2019-05-02 AFTER MORNING WORKOUT

By |2019-05-01T10:28:16+01:00May 2nd, 2019|Vienna|

After my morning workout in the gym, I was walking at the Danube canal to get some fresh air and looking for some photo occasions.  There are miles of graffiti walls, where I shot some runners’ photos, with the person in the speedy foreground and the colorful graffiti in the background.

2019-04-12 RUNNING IN THE PARK

By |2019-04-11T19:44:06+01:00April 12th, 2019|Vienna|

My wife Karin is training for the 10-km women’s run. Preferably she runs her rounds in the Türkenschanzpark, like many others which are training for the race. The park became famous from the Turks siege in 1683, where Viennese fighters defended the city against the Ottomans Army. Since I had my fitness program for the day already, I was sitting on a park bank and shooting photos of the runners.

2019-04-08 MUSEUMSQUARTIER VIENNA

By |2019-04-07T16:41:46+01:00April 8th, 2019|Vienna|

Inside buildings it’s often the perfect opportunity to use your wide-angle lens. In the multi-story building called MUMOK in the Museumsquartier Vienna, I was able to depict the branched floors with one shot. A 14mm lens is still a good compromise between capturing the scene and distorting the edges. That’s one of the reasons why I do not go below 14mm.

2019-04-03 SUNDAY EVENING WALK

By |2019-04-02T20:24:36+01:00April 3rd, 2019|Vienna|

No evening walk without my camera. Last Sunday my wife Karin and I were walking through the City Park (“Stadtpark”) in Vienna. With its central location, you get some nice viewing areas between the Hotel Intercontinental and the Ring Boulevard. On the northern side lies the spa-saloon “Hübner,” which was built in 1857 by Emperor Franz Josef I. An excellent reason to for an evening shot with my Leica and my wife.

2019-03-24 AUSTRIAN NATIONAL LIBRARY

By |2019-03-23T11:00:35+01:00March 24th, 2019|Vienna|

You can expect such magnificent frescoes and ceilings in churches or castles. The Austrian Nationalbibliotek also houses these large ceiling frescoes in the “Prunksaal”, painted by court painter Daniel Gran. Locally you can see that many figures and elements were painted in 3D style, and this happened 300 years ago.

2019-03-14 GROWING SKYLINE OF VIENNA

By |2019-03-13T21:09:39+01:00March 14th, 2019|Vienna|

Many European cities are relatively flat compared to the US or Asian metropolises. There are dedicated quarters for the skylines in specific areas where are limited restrictions for design height. This is also true for Vienna near the Vienna International Centre, which was built between 1973-1979. In the last years, builders added well-designed skyscrapers at the surroundings.

2019-03-04 INTENSE MORNING SUNRISE

By |2019-03-05T05:39:50+01:00March 4th, 2019|Vienna|

On my way to work, I usually don’t have a camera with me. For the spectacular sunrise photo, which looked like a volcano had burst on the horizon, I took my iPhone. When I travel with my wife, I notice the flexibility and speed of photographing with smartphones. I dig the camera out of my bag, during which time my wife has already taken five to six photos with her mobile phone.
