2018-04-18   ARCHITECTURE IN BERLIN

Germany’s capital is not only the hot spot for Currywurst (curry sausage) :-), it’s also interesting to have a more in-depth look at the architecture. One day I was out with my photo-backpack and my photo-bag! My wife has warned me, because of a long walking day in a city with full-packed photo equipment. It was great for the variety of the shootings. However the next day I reduced the packings to the photo-bag. Primarily it’s time-consuming to take the equipment out of the backpack when the others of the group are already around the corner.

2018-04-17   THE LAKE WITH THE PLEASANT SURROUNDINGS

The Wörther See is my favorite lake in Austria. The surroundings are pleasant, mostly mixed forest, one part with more conifers on the Northern side, the Southern side with more broadleaf forest and some rocks. I took a lake circumnavigation with a two-person electro scooter from Renault, named TWIZY. It was great fun, although the vehicle stopped at 70 km/ (45 mph), because the maximum speed was reached.

2018-04-16   SPRING AND FLOWERS ARE BACK

On my Sunday-Nordic-Walking tour with my wife, we took the way through the Türkenschanzpark, a park area with slight hills and little ponds. It dates back to 1683 at the time of the Turkish siege. From that historic battle, the park got its name. At a green hill with blue flowers, I took that photo against the sun. A good feeling, when you can leave your winter clothes at home for the coming months.

2018-04-15   VENICE NIGHTS

The advantages of exploring Venice in the nights; fewer tourists, not so hot, high lights and the unique atmosphere. Some alleyways remind you of scenes as you were in a medieval movie. From corner to corner you can see if a wine bar is still open, where you get Italian prosciutto and red wine from the Tuscany. An experience I can recommend.

2018-04-14   INTENSE SUNSET IN LANGKAWI

Since I am not the guy who lies in the hot sun for hours at a beach, I prefer to use my time to read on my Kindle or take photos. The evenings in Langkawi often have intense colors for sunset shots. The Andaman Beach Hotel lies in the rainforest and is an ideal destination for those shots. No room is longer than 5 minutes walking distance away from the beach and the sunsets. On the way, you’ll see some monkeys or sloths on the trees.

2018-04-13   VIENNA PASSAGE

On the photo is one of many passages in Vienna which connect two streets. Often when my wife makes a shopping tour, at least looking-tour, I stay outside the shop and take some photos. This time I tried the fantastic Google Pixel 2 XL which is among the smartphones with the best camera and photo software yet. It’s also incredibly fast, good work Google !!

2018-04-12   THE DANUBE FROM ABOVE

Although it was windy, I took out my DJI Phantom 4 Pro. I parked at the roadside and went into the greenery to find a starting space. I found a very flat area near an irrigation path. It was a relatively short flying session, because of the wind but enough to take some shots of the Danube in the Wachau in Austria. This region reminds me of the Tuscany, with its terraces and viticulture, its trees and plants.

2018-04-11   WALKING OUT OF THE TAPAS RESTAURANT

I had an invitation for a tapas late-lunch in Barcelona. The restaurant was in a side street of the La Rambla so that I couldn’t find it immediately. I consulted Google Maps and followed the instructions. It was a diverse tapas menu, with many small bowls where you could discover spicy sausages, fried calamari, pickles, fries with cheese and smoked beef in Spanish sauce. During a walk through the restaurant, which was a parking garage before :-), I shot a photo of the snack bar.

2018-04-10   THE NIGHTS IN ROME

Growing up with the movies of Federico Fellini brought their pictures of Italy into my mind. Nowadays walking through Italian cities brings back reminiscences of those scenes, and I try to immerse into Fellini’s world. In Rome, looking at the traffic jams, I think of Fellini’s “Roma”. Exploring Rome in the night, I think of actor Marcello Mastroianni walking through this nightly city.

2018-04-09   SUN OVER SCOTLAND

If you are driving the coast North after Edinburgh, the first cliffs you encounter are near Dundee. They have a height at about 30 m / 100 ft and have all ingredients for a walking tour where you can see the waves breaking on the rocks. Try to reach that location at the golden hour, to get the sunset shots with the warm feeling before the evening comes.
