2017-06-10  GOLF PLAYER IN THE GREEN

This golf tournament was the playground for my new Samyang 14mm 2.8 AF lens. It brings excellent exposures of that vast meadow combined with the blue sky on the top. While my friend Christoph did the people shots, I did the landscape and the sceneries. I was lucky, my Sony A7R II with the wide angle lens was only a fraction of his two Canon DSLRs and Canon 70-200 lenses.  🙂

2017-06-09  PHOTO WALK WITH TREY RATCLIFF

As I got the newsletter from Trey Ratcliff, a great photographer from New Zealand, that he will hold a photo walk in Vienna, for me it was evident to join. The start was at the Ritz Carlton on the Stubenring, the tour bus was parking there, and about 100 people waited. The waiting area was on a bikeway, so occasionally a driver went through the crowd. Punctual at 5 pm the event started, it was a friendly atmosphere. First Trey and his friend Curtis were talking with the people face to face, then Trey took his camera and tripod, and the event began.

The walk went from sight to sight, Opera, Natural historical museum, Volksgarten, city hall. At every location, Trey climbed his mobile pedestal and gave some tips. I liked it.

2017-06-08  NIGHTLY WALK IN VIENNA

Often I use a walk to make a photo-walk with shooting some street scenes. Some weeks ago in Vienna, we had visited a Cafe and with friends and then used the mild climate for a walk in the nightly city. If you are on the move with friends which are no photographers, there’s no way to use a tripod. So I did my shots by hand, with concentration and with holding the breath, to minimize any camera shake.  🙂

2017-06-07  HALL OF MUSEUM IN STOCKHOLM

Since we had the Stockholm Card with free entry, we visited the Nordiska Museet, although it was not on our plan. The entrance hall and the next gallery rooms were impressive. The exhibitions are more for native Swedish. There was an Aurora walkthrough, but there, shooting photos was not possible, it was extremely dark, with some simulated, green aurora stripes coming up. Outside of the museum is a chill out area, where we got some cold drinks, Stockholm was hot.

2017-06-06  MOUNTAINTOPS UNDER THE BLAZING SUN

During shooting, I didn’t realize which effect the bright sun had on the mountaintops. It looks like painted in orange and yellow, with some fog in the foreground, which lies over the valleys. A nature spectacle of its own. Because of that shooting session, my wife and friends had to wait for a longer time, in a nearby cafe-restaurant. It was freezing that day, so for them, it was tea time. 🙂

2017-06-05  STREET PHOTOGRAPHY IN HONG KONG

The never ending flow of people in the streets of Hong Kong brings you to street photography automatically. It’s a city with great buildings, neon signs, a high dynamic atmosphere. I had my Skechers with the memory foam sole on; the streets give your feet a run for their money  🙂

2017-06-04  THE GARDENS OF SCHÖNBRUNN

It would be interesting to know if the gardens of Schönbrunn existed in that form during the time of Empress Maria Theresia? I think so. However today these chopped shrubs give a beautiful picture of symmetry and art. For the gardener it’s “a never-ending story,” there are hundreds of those bushes, with finishing the last one, you can go to number 1 and start over again because the growth of the leaves doesn’t stop. 🙂

2017-06-03  COLORFUL HOUSES IN THE NIGHT

Velden in Carinthia is a touristy destination; there you will see this cool lighting of the buildings and streets in the night. They bring accents of pink on house fronts, yellow on the streets, light bands wounded around the trees. Since my hotel was middle of town, it was easy to take the tripod with me, which allowed those night shots with longer exposure. Although nearly nobody likes to carry tripods, the outcome is worth it. 🙂 I prefer to place it on the middle-back of my photo backpack, with a bag where you have to place the tripod on the side, gives you an unbalanced feel with time, the more easy, the bigger the chance that you get it with you.

2017-06-02  ROBOTICS FUN

Attending the Citrix World Conference in Bonn was technically fascinating, but the fun part got not too short. The great attraction was this robot, named NOX. He could walk around, dance to music, speak with people, and had a good time. When he was in full swing with walking, the crowd in front of him cleared very fast. But he was a big guy with an iron heart of gold. 🙂

2017-06-01  HOTEL IN STOCKHOLM FOR LUNCH

My wife and I entered this hotel after searching for a light lunch meal, like a salad or fresh seafood. And that was what we got, very good  🙂  I discovered that order/payment method there, many times in Stockholm: choosing and ordering the food in front of the cashier, paying immediately, getting a number and then searching a table. I found it very practical, faster and more efficient than the traditionally ordering in restaurants.
