2017-09-22  NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

It was not really night, but later afternoon in the NY Museum of Natural History. Standing on the gallery I shot that photo of the famous elephants in that big museum hall. Walking through the exhibition rooms I often thought about that funny movie with Ben Stiller “Night at the Museum”.  🙂

2017-09-21  THE SUN WARMING THE BIG WALL OF LUCCA

Lucca is one of the rare cities which have a full city wall around the old town. It’s about 500 years old and 2.5 miles / 4 km long. I have read stories, where the people in the town feel safer because of the wall. Who knows? Being in Lucca made me think about that, and I got something out about this story.

All in all it’s just another brick in the wall
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall  ➡ song text “Another brick in the wall” by Pink Floyd

2017-09-20  GRAND HOTEL STOCKHOLM

Tonight we sleep on silken sheets
We drink fine wine and eat rare meats
On Carousel and gambling stake
Our fortunes speed, and dissipate
It’s candlelight and chandelier
It’s silver plate and crystal clear
The nights we stay at Hotel Grand  ➡ song text “Grand Hotel” by Procol Harum

For me it was only a visit at the bar  :-),  I did the photos a bit undercover, photographing at that location is not welcomed. Grand Hotel Stockholm has it all, butlers and concierges in uniform, waiters and bar tenders with a suit, bow tie, and tidy haircuts.

2017-09-19  CHURCH IN CARINTHIA

A quad tour on the hills of Carinthia brought me through endless meadows and alpine pastures, I saw natural lakes like the “Forstsee” and farm houses. At a short rest for a bottle of natural water, I saw that rural church and was ready to shoot immediately. The roofing is with wooden tiles, the area around the church wooden fenced.

2017-09-18  LOUD TIME SQUARE

The hot spot of New York, the neon signs bring you the newest trends of the world, masses of people in the district, a very special flare in the night, thousands of different faces and cultures every minute, big black SUVs on the streets, many shops and groceries open 24 hours, buskers and musicians on the street, red line buses gathering tourists, here and there a cop.  🙂

2017-09-17  MAN WITH SUN GLASSES

Often I am a bit precarious with photographing people, because I am not sure if they like it. This man was ready to pose for few seconds, which I used to take a fast shot. This happened at Haight Ashbury in San Francisco during a street fest. Though he wore sun glasses, I could make eye contact where he signaled I would be allowed to take photos.

2017-09-16  MODERN SHOPPING CENTERS IN ISTANBUL

The shopping centers in Istanbul can compete with every shopping center in the Western world, and will surpass most of them. New modern architecture and design, all kind of fashion labels and food courts, those centers are real entertainment palaces. In a city with a population of nearly 15 million, it has to serve many cultures and population strata. I can recommend visiting this city to everyone.

2017-09-15  PILLARS OF GENOVA

A high-speed train brought my wife and me from La Spezia to Genova. The travel time was about an hour, with fully air conditioned carriages. I took a cold Aloe Vera drink as provisions and soon could go out in Genova exploring the city. I can tell you, that is a must see. In my thinking, I had this as a gray harbor city, but the opposite is true. Cultural heritage, full of live and interesting streets and buildings. And a great exhibition of photographer Elliot Erwitt.

2017-09-14  SLIEMA TO ST. JULIANS, MALTA

Beginning in Sliema, stretching to St. Julians the Malta boardwalk brings Maltese buildings, restaurants, churches, hotels and flats. A many miles walk/drive, where you can enjoy the Mediterranean climate and pleasant lightings. It surprises you with something new, around every corner. In many Maltese restaurants, they serve English beer, Guinness or John Smith, both I like.  🙂

2017-09-13  TYPICAL WINE STREET IN LOWER AUSTRIA

Along the wine streets, you see those houses with grape presses inside, often combined with wine cellars. The buildings are near the wine gardens, where the ways from the vintage to pressing stays short. In this area, you don’t have the big, industrial wine producers; there are many smaller vintners which try to produce the best wine from their grapes. Often vintage is done per hand, with wine scissors and tubs hanging on shoulders and back.
