2017-09-02  OIL PUMP IN THE FIELD

Oil in central Europe is scarce, in Lower Austria, in an area called Marchfeld, you can find some oil pumps in the middle of the agricultural landscape. These pumps get operated by the OMV, are very silent during pumping. As I was a kid, I was there with my bike looking at it, going up and down, up and down. Now I take photos with my quad copter DJI Phantom 4 Pro.  🙂

2017-09-01  TAJ MAHAL WEST SIDE

I looked from a different angle when shooting one of the most photographed monuments on earth. I had the sun on the higher frame, the Taj Mahal in the middle and some Indian people on the right standing that tiled floor. With the wide angle lens, this gives a new composition which I like. If you are on that site where I did the photo you have already walking socks on your feet because entry to the Taj Mahal is only allowed without shoes to protect the monument. The correct strategy to keep that building protected for the generations to come.

2017-08-31  COOL KIDS IN STOCKHOLM

You can use the Stockholm Pass also for a boat tour, (one of the many attractions included) so I did. There I saw those cool kids with sunglasses and headphones, listening and shaking to the rhythm of the music.  🙂

2017-08-30  THE METAL CONSTRUCTION WALK IN VIENNA

Between the shipping pier for the Bratislava hovercraft and the stylish restaurant “Motto at the River” you have to walk on that metal construction way. That’s one of the newer buildings at the Danube canal in Vienna. From time to time I go there and have a cocktail at the bar. A great view of the water channel and the Schwedenplatz-bridge awaits you, which connects second with the first district of Vienna.

2017-08-29  STONES IN THE PINNACLE NATIONAL PARK

The hot walk in the Pinnacle National Park reminded me of older episodes of the Star Trek series, with William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk. The landscape in the park looked similar as some planets where the crew of the Enterprise got beamed. The stones looked surreal, as the card box stones which made the movie sets. A walking adventure at 40 C / 105 F on dusty, stony paths in that “Star Trek adventure land.” 🙂

2017-08-28  LIGHTENING IN VELDEN

Carinthia with the lovely Wörther See and the little town Velden, the perfect summer location for spending some days and relax. The mild weather in the evening combined with the soft lightening of the buildings as here in the photo the Gamonaplatz, bring you sweet vacations. The beaches of the Wörther See (Wörther Lake) consist of smooth, green grass; the water has drinking water quality. Fish and ducks are swimming there, and for some fun, you can rent a motor boat with tires, with which you get towed high speed over the water. You have to fight to stay within the tire and need all your hand grip power. If it happens that you get thrown into the water, it can burn a bit, like a belly-flop.  🙂

2017-08-27  SHOOTING RANGE AT THE PRATER

Going through amusement park The Prater in the night gives you all these fancy colors of the attractions, like that shooting gallery shown in the photo. Though you can only shoot with air rifles, onto targets like paper flowers or balloons, it’s great fun. If you can increase your strikes, you get rewarded with teddies or plushies. Many younger guys use this, to shoot a presence for their girlfriends.

As an alternative, you could choose the safest of all shooters, can knock down. You shoot with soft balls, made of old socks and stockings. It’s the same procedure; the more cans you can strike, the bigger the teddy you will get.

The third variation is shooting with darts on balloons; again a teddy is waiting.  🙂

2017-08-26  BALCONIES OF LUCCA

I was sitting in a street cafe and explored the surroundings with my camera. I had the Sony Zeiss 24-70 F4 with me, so I was a bit limited with the telephoto. For this shot, I had to use my full 70 mm focal length. I like the old balconies with the gray louvered blinds, combined with the color of the house. In Italy often the simple things get interesting. After the shooting session, I took a double espresso with whipped cream and a cold San Bernardino mineral water with a lemon slice.

I was lucky that my wife and I rented a bike, with this we could speed up exploring the city and taking even more photos. 🙂

2017-08-25  AQUARIUM

More and more cities have it, the Aquarium. Often I think there is a competition which one is the most spectacular, that’s marketing. 🙂 This one in San Francisco is top, modern, fresh interiors and impressive aquariums in different variations like tunnels and big walls, some so big that I saw divers inside repairing the venting and feeding sharks. Photos handheld only with higher ISOs, it’s pretty dark in most places inside. You get a full ocean discovery tour and extensive description and documentation of under sea flora and fauna. Also a great place for kids, there were some school classes with dozens of pupils running and shouting.  🙂

2017-08-24  THE BOOK KIOSK IN LUCCA

Italy is one of the countries left, where book kiosks still exist. You get all kind of books, old and new, some second-hand, they offer maps in different sizes and notebooks with artfully decorated binders and pictures. Some also have a broad portfolio of magazines and journals. They have their smell of the different papers. Those stores with the architecture around lets you think, you be in a world hundred years ago.
