2018-01-21   STARS AT THE HIGH SLOPE

The “Hohe Wand” – High Slope is a nearly vertical rock-wall with height at about 1,135 m (3,700 ft). Geographically it’s at the tail of the Alps, about one hour driving time away from Vienna. On the top, you are standing on a big plateau with a view over a broad landscape. At about 11 pm is the best time for star photography. Wide-angle lens, wide open, ISO 800-2,500. I used my Sony A7S and the Rokinon (Samyang) 14mm 2.8 AF lens.

2018-01-20   SHEIKH ZAYED MOSQUE AT DUSK

I would line up that mosque under the Wonders of the World. Such an impressive, spacious building with its surroundings is a must see in Abu Dhabi. After leaving your shoes a the entrance, you are free to walk around and explore the pillars, roofs, and domes. If you are there before dusk, you can watch the illumination of an impressive, complete artwork.

2018-01-19   BARISTAS AT WORK

It was the second time that I visited “Coffee World Vienna,” an exhibition of coffee brewers, sellers and all kind of espresso machines. There’s always a pleasant smell in the air, no wonder with the steady coffee brewing. You get many coffee samples free of charge; better to hold the consumption under control. Otherwise, you get a sleepless night with that caffeine overdose.  🙂

2018-01-18   BUDDHA TEMPLE IN SINGAPORE

On the first day, I arrived at the Buddha temple too late. I was standing in front of closed doors. So I decided to take a night shot. I positioned myself to get the doors with the statues, as guards of the temple, and parts of the roof onto the photo. After this picture, I was sure to visit the temple on the next day again, to take photos from the inside.

On the left street after the temple, there is an open-air food area, which I can wholeheartedly recommend. Very good Singapore-food !  🙂

2018-01-17   PORTO VENERE

Cinque Terre with Porto Venere, one of the thousand great compositions and photos you can get there. I was already leaving Cinque Terre as I saw a parking lot on the curvy street with space for only one car. I took the risky parking maneuver and soon was at a steep slope with 100 yards down to the sea. I was leaning forward to align the composition to get the last photo of that trip.  🙂

2018-01-16   SKYLINE EDINBURGH

All went well during that handheld pano-shooting in a light drizzle.  I was a bit afraid of my camera and lens, but since both have splash-water protection, it was okay with the weather. Here on the observation deck of Edinburgh Castle, you have a great view all over the city. This photo initially consisted of three photos. From these I created three HDR pictures with Aurora. After export, I merged them in Photoshop to one pano.

2018-01-15   PATIO IN VERONA

Some buildings and patios in Verona remind me of the video game ‘Assassin’s Creed.’ When looking on the veneers, I imagine Desmond Miles climbing up the walls, jumping and hiding from enemies. This city must have been the template for parts of the series. A balancing act between fiction and reality.

2018-01-14   COMING UP FROM SWITZERLAND

With this chairlift, you are coming up from Switzerland, and at the exit, you stand at the “virtual” border between Switzerland and Austria at the Paznaun area mountains peak. Lunch in Switzerland and afternoon tea in Austria, a magnificent panorama and thin fresh air on a height about 3,000 meters (10,000 ft).

2018-01-13   RAINFOREST IN SAN FRANCISCO

In the California Institute of Science, they have rebuilt a rain forest in a big glass dome. You get the humility, the temperature, the vegetation and even the butterflies. There are four levels to explore, a great attraction and an educational tour also. I was there with my friend and colleague Herbert, which was a medium for the butterflies, which took place on his back and head.  🙂

2018-01-12   RIVER ADIGE IN VERONA

The photo of the Adige shooted from the Castelvecchio Bridge. The segmental arch bridge is entirely brick-built. I saw that bridge by accident, was driving with a rented motor-scooter. I wanted to fell real Italian. At a bus station where I had to wait I looked at the left and saw the accompanying buildings and the bridge after that. There were mostly Asian tourists, but not too crowded. So I had time for some photos.  🙂
