2018-01-11   BREAKFAST IN AMERICA

The photo reminds me of that great song “Breakfast in America” from Supertramp. I shot this in a deli in San Francisco. Bar, tables, chairs and the menu – a typical breakfast bar. The waitress comes with iced water which gets poured into a glass with ice cubes. 80% of all dishes are made with eggs. 🙂  And a digital jukebox on some tables.

2018-01-10   THE ENDLESS FIELDS

The big agricultural area in lower Austria brings endless fields of corn, wheat, and sugar beets. To capture the whole area as far as the eye can reach, I started my DJI Phantom 4 Pro. If the weather is on your side and it’s not too windy, this quadcopter shoots perfect photos.

2018-01-09   THE DOME EDINBURGH

Waiting for the reservation, …  The Dome in Edinburgh is a restaurant, cafe, and bar. An artfully decorated building out- and inside. It’s a tourist hotspot, what is a “good” thing in that case. Shooting pictures is welcomed, nobody is bothered by it. Patience is required, to get the right people on your photo.  🙂

2018-01-08   BURANO IN BLACK AND WHITE

Burano is that famous Italian fishermen’s village with the house facades painted in red, yellow, blue and green, which makes it predestinated for color photos. But in this case, I got a bit too much noise. Then it’s a good idea to make it black and white, where the noise doesn’t harm and often adds to the impression and style of the scenery.

2018-01-07   TOP CASTLE ON THE ROCK

You cannot overlook Edinburgh Castle in the city. It dominates the skyline and is present in most parts of the old town, it is built on the volcanic plug Castle Rock. Walking around between the buildings and walls and looking at the massive stone walls is quite impressive. Soon I got reminiscences of the movie Braveheart. The castle is the home of the Scottish Crown jewels, worth a visit, though taking photos is not permitted in the exhibition room. So they will last in my memories.

2018-01-06   DUSK OVER THE ANDAMAN SEA

The Andaman Sea stretches from Western Thailand down to Malaysia. It surrounds the rain-forest island Langkawi, which is the right place for classical beach photos or sometimes for dramatic skies with wild clouds and the glowing sun behind. I shot this picture at the beach of the “The Andaman Hotel.” I can recommend this location, placed middle in the rainforest; you can see monkeys and sloths on the trees. 🙂

2018-01-05   HUNTING CHATEAU

The Habsburg Monarchy has used castle Eckartsau as a hunting chateau. There are many castles like that in Austria. Nowadays most of them are renovated. You can listen to music concerts and watch historical spectacles like theaters or costume fests.

2018-01-04   FOOD COURT IN SINGAPORE

Singapore has a good reputation for the great food you get. I can confirm this, at that food court I had a Korean barbecue. The cook prepares the food on hot metal plates, mixes vegetables, fish or meat with spicy sauces and sesame oil. With a metal spatula, he shoves the food on your plate. And you can start eating with your wooden sticks.  🙂

2018-01-03   PEAK OF A GLACIER

Only 5 meters missing from the 3,000 m (9,842 ft), with this height the “Hoher Dachstein” is the second largest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps. Skiing is possible the whole year; this picture dates from March 2017. The valleys were green already, with the first signs of the coming spring. On the mountain, peak skiing was in full force, with meters of fresh snow.

2018-01-02   A NEW MAD MAX MOVIE ?

First I thought I had taken the wrong exit. We landed between the film crew of a new Mad Max – movie. The barren post-apocalyptic landscape presented itself like in Mad Max: Fury Road. But these war rigs and monster trucks are food trucks of “Last Exit” motorway service station between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. 🙂  You can order a coke and some nachos and make a well-deserved break from your journey.
