2018-09-12   MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY LOBBY

The Museum of Natural History in Vienna has the ambient of a magnificent castle of ancient times. The decoration and interior architecture is an art for itself, beginning from the art-deco floors to the crested pillars and up to the dramatic ceilings. Though the exhibitions appear more old school with outdated cabinets, the building is a marvel and worth to visit.

2018-09-10   AFTER DINNER IN BARCELONA

After dinner my colleagues were going into their hotel rooms, it was already 11 pm. I added 1 hour for a photo tour, I was lucky, the hotel was near the Placa de Espana. Armed with my Sony A7R II and a mini tripod I got ready for some night shots. Looking after staircases with concrete sockets was my first agenda, then I tried to get the right composition and prepared the camera settings for long-term exposure.

2018-09-09   THE CHURCH OF WEISSENKRICHEN

On the photo is the fortified church of Weissenkirchen in Lower Austria. It’s a church with a castle wall and defensive positions, built in the medieval times, a mixture of church and ancient castle. The location is on a knoll, one of the higher points in the city, which underlines the position for defense against horse attacks and knight troops.

2018-09-08   THE WIDE AREA OF THE FALLS

I was impressed that the Niagara Falls are two falls. One of it on the Canadian side and the other on the American side. The whole area is more significant than I thought. Often I have seen many Youtube videos, pictures and documentaries of sight, and then I am a bit disappointed when I am standing before the attraction. The opposite was true with the Niagara Falls, more excitement and spectacle than I have imagined.

2018-09-07   PARK IN GENOA

After three days in the Cinque Terre, my wife Karin and I gave a visit to Genoa a try. We entered a train from Corniglia; it took about 1h 20 minutes to arrive in Genoa. I bought a cold Aloe-Vera drink at the railway station, then paid a little amount to upgrade to the first class and we had a relaxing ride in an air-conditioned compartment. After a long walk in Genoa, we took a hop on-hop off -bus where I could capture some beautiful moments of the drifting in the city.

2018-09-05   BOTANICAL GARDEN IN VARENNA

I think Lake Como with the city Como got famous because of the stars like George Clooney, which have a villa there. The village Bellagio got famous because of the casino in Las Vegas with the same name. My wife Karin and I took a speedboat tour which had ship stations at each village at the lake. One stop was Varenna, where you can walk through a fantastical botanical garden, which is very neat and has a broad spectrum of Mediterranean plants and trees.

2018-09-04   ON THE WAY TO SCANDINAVIA

Stockholm has deep waters which reach into the city; the cruiser was at anchor at a big concrete wall near a bridge and fabric buildings. It got prepared for a tour all around Scandinavia. I was a spectator only and thought about the effort of building such a large ship.

2018-09-03   WACHAU – UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE

I took all the way up, to the higher levels of the wine gardens to get the magnificent view over the hills, the river Danube and the village called Spitz. The area is named Wachau and got its Unesco World Heritage status in 2000. When visiting, don’t forget to taste the excellent wines, like Riesling, Chardonnay, Weißburgunder or Grüner Veltliner. For the photo, I took handheld panorama shots, where I overlapped at about 30% to give Photoshop enough room tho photo merge. With this process, I always got good results, and Photoshop stacked the panos nicely.

2018-09-02   TRE CIME DI LAVAREDO

You can drive up the mountain road until 2999 meters, then take a walk of about 1 kilometer, and you will stand before that nature spectacle called Tre Cime di Lavaredo (“three merlons”). The jagged mountaintops of the Dolomites surround the whole area. Big valleys are at your feet. The weather god meant well with me, I had some short moments where the fog went away, and I could shoot photos with the three peaks. On the way back, rain was pouring already. 🙂
