2018-10-21   NIKKO HOTEL SAN FRANCISCO

Check-in and two hours, this was the time of our first hotel-stay in San Francisco. With outdated and derelict rooms, a noisy radiator, even it was inoperative, the washing-dish in the sleeping room… We made the fast decision to relocate to a different hotel and were delighted that we found a stay in the Nikko hotel, which I can fully recommend. 🙂

2018-10-20   TREE IN THE PARK OF CASTLE FALKENSTEIN

On my brother’s birthday, we visited the Falkenstein Castle. It was founded about 1050 and is located in North-East of Austria, only a few miles away of the Czech Republic. The ravages of time gnawed on the castle and formed it to a ruin. However, it’s worth a visit, and I could shoot some beautiful photos in the castle’s garden.

2018-10-19   HONG KONG VIEW TO THE SKY

In Hong Kong sometimes a sky-spot is only possible surrounded by skyscrapers. With my camera adjusted I was on the road and caught the city-scenes. I think the town is more crowded with higher buildings than New York, so you don’t have to search too long, for dramatic photos.

2018-10-18   GARDENS BY THE BAY NIGHT TOUR

After doing my photo shots of the Gardens by the Bay on the observation deck, I went down to visit the area. At the entry, there is a visitor’s map to get on overview of the sections with the Supertree Grove or Flower Dome. The constructors and designers attached great value to details, on the photo you can see a simple route between attractions with a stylish roof and colorful flowers.

2018-10-16   NIGHTLY WALK IN VERONA II

Then the walking tour brought us on the Piazza delle Erbe, the center of the old town. A place which combines all the styling and art of Italy in a concentrated form which shows at its buildings, wells, restaurants and cafes.

2018-10-15   NIGHTLY WALK IN VERONA

My wife Karin got angry from time to time during our nightly walk through Verona, because I had to stop on nearly every corner to take photos. But you have to use the opportunities; when shops and restaurants are closing already, you have the city lying before you to go all in for photo shooting. Use the dim light in Italian towns which give unique blend to the buildings and architecture.

2018-10-14   AQUARIUM SAN FRANCISCO

Looking like the aisles in a futuristic starship, the styling of the San Francisco Aquarium is one of a kind. A cool location for visiting, best with your kids or friends to get an experience of education, surprise and excitement. And don’t forget your wide angle lens.

2018-10-12   ART MUSEUM VIENNA IN THE NIGHT

Once a year there is an event called “Long night of the museums” in Vienna. All museums are open from Saturday 6 pm to Sunday at 1 am. A neat idea compared to the early closing times, museums usually have. And the whole experience with one entry card for about € 12. I took my camera equipment and visited four different museums. I grabbed a wide angle lens and my Sigma 35mm Art lens with the low f-number 1.4 for the shots in the gloomy light. The first visit was at the Vienna Museum for Applied Art (MAK) which you can see on the photo.

2018-10-10   ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON

I did a hiking tour with my wife on a Sunday afternoon. We got lost while walking through some gardens and had to cross railroad tracks trudging through the grit. After entering a country lane, I saw that rainbow stretching over the houses and gardens. It lasted only for seconds; I took my Leica X Vario and I was lucky enough to catch two shots with the rainbow in its full splendor.

2018-10-09   TV TOWER IN PRAGUE

The Zizkov Television Tower represents a unique design. Built in the communist area, it got one of the landmarks in Prague; it stands high above the city’s skyline. It’s relatively cheap to get up, (e.g., compared to the Empire State Building 🙂 ). Worth a visit, I would plan it as a fixed spot on a Prague journey. With good weather, you get a view of the endless sea of Prague’s buildings in all four cardinal directions.
