2019-04-30 COMING HOME IN VENICE

My wife Karin and I arrived in Venice at about 5 pm. We parked our car in the San Marco garage, which we had booked online. I can recommend booking in advance, this garage is already on the island, from where you can go directly to the water-bus station. The 30-minute drive to the Piazza San Marco showed us the pink sky over Venice, with motor boats of Venetian residents on their way home. First I thought water busses are a bit slow, but in which city you can go from the outer areas to the center within 30 minutes? That’s pretty cool, no traffic jam, no traffic lights, no waiting time. 🙂

2019-04-29 THE CHURCH IN NANTES

The public rental bikes in Nantes have a basket in front of the handlebar, perfect for putting in the photo bag. By bike, we drove around in the old town and stopped in front of the interesting sights to take pictures. And the price of a bicycle for 24 hours was only € 1. The easier way for a photo tour compared to the miles of marches on foot.

2019-04-28 THE STAR WARS LANDSCAPE AT THE DEAD SEA

From Masada Fortress you have a great view of the Dead Sea. The landscape is unique, rugged soils and rocks, partly with salt crusts. With the shadows of the clouds and the haze in the sky, the scene seems like a science fiction movie.

2019-04-27 THE BLUE BULL IN SINGAPORE

The Gardens by the Bay offer an illuminated and colorful extravaganza when walking there during the night. Beneath the world famous Supertrees with its spectacular light show, you can find many smaller exhibits, like this blue bull on the photo. I spent 5 hours there, from the beginning of the light show to the curfew. My wife was already tired and made herself comfortable on a park bench while I was still on a final photo tour.

2019-04-26 THE WHITE HALL AT THE LEICA WORLD WETZLAR

After entering the Leica World building you arrive in a white hall. Around the corner on the left are world famous Leica photos digitized with illuminated background. In the middle is an exhibition of historic cameras and at the end on the right side, the factory tour begins. You can look through four big windows to watch the process of building lenses and cameras in real time. Worth a visit if you are near Frankfurt or Cologne.

2019-04-24 THE TEMPLATE FOR ASSASSIN’S CREED

The first thought when I walked into this courtyard was that the developers of Assassin’s Creed went over here and got the ideas for the design of their buildings. My son Maro would have enjoyed it, he played all parts of Assassin’s Creed and is a big fan of the game. A good reason to visit Verona. 🙂

2019-04-24 THE FIRST WARM DAYS IN AUSTRIA

Lake Neusiedl is a steppe lake between Austria and Hungary. This lake is only 1.5 meters deep with a muddy underground, very popular with kite surfers and sailors. Many visitors use the first warm summer days with a drink at the beach bars of the villages Weiden or Neusiedl am See.

2019-04-23 THE BRIDGE WITH THOUSANDS OF BRICKS

My wife Karin and I rented a motor-scooter in Verona, to get the Italian feel of driving through the city and stopping at interesting points and espresso cafes. The bridge of the photo we saw by accident, a small line was standing to get to the attraction. The Castelvecchio Bridge is nearly 700 years old, built in 1354-1356. With a length of 120 meters, the builders must have used hundred thousands of bricks to build the walls, the way, and the merlons.

2019-04-22 THE PARK WITH THE IRON HORSES

I didn’t know of The Kelpies before I was in Edinburgh. In our bed&breakfast hotel, I saw a brochure with a photo of these two metal horse heads. I knew that I had to see them immediately and take some pictures. It’s a drive of about 45 minutes in a park and adventure area called The Helix.  It didn’t need much time to convince my wife Karin; she was excited about visiting. Since the weather was not the best, we were nearly alone in the area. Of the many photos I shot, the wide-angle is one of my favorites.

2019-04-21 MAIN ENTRY TO THE OLD TOWN OF AVIGNON

The first time I was in Avignon, I was 19 years old. I made a road trip with friends from Vienna to Spain, at Avignon we made a stopover. This city has fascinated me to this day, so I visited Avignon last year with my wife, Karin. From a round-trip bus, I was able to shoot several photos of the city wall and the main entrance.
