2017-12-03  FIELDS AND FARMER

The rural parts of Lower Austria consist of agriculture, woods, and smooth hills. The fields are cultivated mainly with corn, wheat, and sugar beet. It’s interesting to watch the precisely drawing of the demarcation lines between the scopes.

2017-11-30  ROMANTIC EVENING

The sinking sun reflecting on the lake, a couple on a jetty in the evening, these are the ingredients for a romantic picture. My wife Karin and I were eating Sushi in Pörtschach at the Wörther See. After ordering the food, I stepped up for a quick photo round. I had my Leica X Vario with me, the perfect camera for an evening walk. Lightweight and capable of an excellent picture quality. The lens design is from renowned Peter Karbe, director of optics development, Leica Camera AG.

2017-11-16  WATERFALL IN A GORGE

I visited my parents in Eisenkappel-Vellach this summer. My father was in a health spa. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, we did two hours walk in a gorge. It was coolish between the rocks, trees and plants, a pleasant contrast to the hot sun. The greenery was wet; you had to be careful of the slick way. I saw that wild river with the waterfalls. I thought about swimming, but as I stood in the ice-cold water with my calves, I decided to stay with this “Kneipp cure.” 😎 I shot some photos of the waterfall. After going out of the water, my lower feet were unfeeling, my bloodstream and body completely fresh.

2017-11-12  SUN BEHIND THE MOUNTAINS

I saw many photographers and tourists come and go during my session on the observation tower at the Pyramidenkogel (“wooded pyramid mountain”). Armed with my tripod, I had to wait for the decisive moment. The fluctuations of the wooden floor, bred by walking visitors, spread over to my placed tripod. Especially with long exposures, it got tricky. I had to wait for quiet moments. This was one of the reasons why I was more than two hours on the tower. The other reason was this great sun, which sunk behind the mountains. Heaven and mountains got a shining, yellow light. A real nature spectacle. 🙂

2017-11-10  ART MILE ON THE BOARDWALK

A prominent art exhibition on the boardwalk at Velden am Wörthersee. Dozens of booths with fancy artifacts, often created by unknown artists. An exclusive exhibition tour, going from one box to the next, talking with the artists, shooting photos and have a good time.

2017-11-07  CHAPEL IN A CASTLE

By walking on the first floor in Castle Grafenegg and looking at the garden & design exhibition, I saw that little chapel at an inconspicuous place, at the end of the exhibition path, where usually no one goes. It is remarkable how often you discover such hidden treasures in old castles. That’s the reason why each visit is a photographic journey for me. 🙂

2017-11-06  THE BIG LAKE

The Lake Neusiedl, a big steppe lake between Hungary and Austria, the blue sky with the glowing sun, a beach bar and some boats at anchor. These are the ingredients for an atmospheric chill-out photo. Coming together for a pleasant Sunday afternoon with some friends. Drink at the bar, ordering Averna on the rocks or Aperol Spritz. Shooting pictures and renting an electric boat to explore the reed belt which seams the shore, that’s relaxing.  😎

2017-10-31  CEILING FRESCO

The invitation to a classical-music concert brought me to castle Eckartsau. At the stairway, to the music hall, I saw that ceiling fresco. I took that shot with my Sony A7R II and Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens. It’s always a good idea, to have some parts of your photo equipment with you. 🙂

2017-10-27  NATURE AT ITS BEST

Breathing fresh, clean air between trees on a mountain and looking at the horizon with blue sky and white clouds. All ingredients for a day which refreshes mind and body and shows you the beauty of nature. Living in a city, I should do this more often, to come back to earth.

2017-10-25  HUNTING LODGE WITH STORK’S NEST

Castle Eckartsau is an old hunting lodge which dates back to 1175. Once it was a residence of Emperor Karl I. Nowadays, the use is for classical concerts and theater. It’s a lovely “walking-around” area and the home of many storks, which make their nests on the chimneys of the castle.
