I’ve had the villa of the Austrian painter Ernst Fuchs on my plan for a long time. There was a visit last Sunday, and I was impressed. The estate is a real work of art, from the building and garden to the interior and paintings.

The Dachstein in Styria is a glacier with a viewing terrace. There you stand in front of an extensive alpine panorama. If the visibility is good, you can add many mountain photos to your portfolio. I used a telephoto lens to bring specific mountains on the photo. A wide-angle lens would not be suitable for these kinds of panoramas.

It was a refreshing hike on the heath near Perchtoldsdorf. There were many types of grass and shrubs just growing there on the heather. The area is under nature protection and offers a pleasant experience for relaxing afternoons.

There is a viewing platform where you can see from Vienna as far as Lower Austria. You can admire the Klosterneuburg Monastery in the near. Especially the lighting in the night leaves an unforgettable impression.

This scene fits the start of a mystery thriller. An entrance in the back yard, a stranger, stands by the door, but you still have to go in to keep the appointment in the building.

The large lake between Austria and Hungary is called Lake Neusiedl. It’s only 1.5-2 meters deep with a very muddy bottom. You often sink up to your knees in the mud. Reeds grow on the banks, the lake is called a steppe lake. Often one has the impression of standing in front of a sea, the horizon is so vast.

To avoid the long queue of people, we were very early at the valley station of the Dachstein glacier. Once at the top, we were rewarded with sunshine between the dark clouds. A short time later, the sun outshone the clouds and began to illuminate the glacier.

We visited the garden exhibition at Eckartsau Palace with my brother Christian. At 33 degrees Celsius, it was a hot summer day. It would help if you took pictures with high shutter speeds at intense sunshine; I left that to the Leica M8, with the shutter wheel in the “A” position. The camera selected 1/1000 for the photo.

Laxenburg is an excursion destination for a leisurely afternoon. You walk between meadows, ponds, and tall trees. Sometimes I am surprised that I often like simple photos in nature better than I could imagine when I took the pictures.
