The approach to Ravello is so narrow that traffic lights regulate parts of the road for oncoming traffic. There is no way to avoid an oncoming car. When you arrive at Villa Rufolo, your reward will be a great view over the Amalfi coast.

2021-08-15 POMPEJI NIGHT SCENE
We took a seat in a park on the main square after an excellent pizza as you can only get it in Italy. While my wife Karin and my son looked at the cell phones, I looked around to find motifs for my Leica M8. And Italy is always rich to fill your portfolio with photos.

2021-08-08 AMALFI COAST
The panorama of the Amalfi Coast is unique. Imposing are the houses and bridges built into the rocks. I stood on a small rubber dinghy with an outboard motor and was able to capture the coast from the perspective of a seafarer.

Lake Garda is a trendy place for tourists from Switzerland, Italy, and Austria. You can walk along the wooden walkways and leave everyday life behind. Many areas are for swimming and surfing, and a good bar is not far.

In the old town of Como, you are quickly enclosed by the magnificent facades of the monumental houses. Entry for cars is forbidden. Therefore, you can fully focus on taking photos.

2021-05-18 THE ICONIC LANDSCAPE OF CINQUE TERRE
The coastal towns of the Cinque Terre are great photo opportunities. Many photographers had placed their tripods at the viewing platform to bring the best frames to the photos. I used a wide-angle lens to put the whole area in the scene, to cover the coast, the city, and the sea.

My wife Karin and I rented a scooter and were able to explore Verona. We stopped at this bridge, and we were impressed by the structure—one of the many jewels to be discovered in Verona.

These scenes from Savona reminded me of my childhood vacation. The beach with the carousel, the lighting in the area, and the ice cream stand. Certain things don’t change in Italy.

2021-03-27 BLACK AND WHITE WITH AN €30 CAMERA
At times I set myself the task of taking night photos with an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera. In Como, I had the 12-year-old Panasonic DMC-FX 150 with me. I was able to buy it on eBay for € 30. The great thing is it has built-in a Leica Vario-Elmarit lens. The exciting thing about the task is to try to get the best out of the existing possibilities.
