2018-02-13   VENICE FROM CANALE GRANDE

Standing on the reeling of a water bus gives you great views when driving on the Canale Grande and looking at the buildings of Venice. I had my Sony A7S with me to capture the high-iso scenes with my best effort to keep the photos relatively clean, without too much noise or blurriness.

2017-12-24   CHRISTMAS IMPRESSIONS FROM EUROPE

Different styles of Christmas impressions in European cities. What they all have in common is the beautiful lighting of the night. The first photo in Venice was handheld. I did this from a water taxi, where I waited for calm water, and at the same time, I was holding my breath to reduce camera shake. 🙂  For the second I used my tripod on the staircase to the Museum of Natural history. And the third happened after going out of a Christmas party in Malta. Here I shot also handheld and fast before the street was filled with people again.

2017-10-28  THE LIGHTS OF VENICE

Tourists, hobby and pro photographers fight for the best place to shoot photos from the bridges. Placing a tripod is often impossible because it would be knocked over with your camera, not a good idea. I decided to do handheld shots, where I set my elbows on the handrail, stopped breathing and concentrated on shooting the photos without shaking.  🙂

2017-05-21  MASKS IN VENICE

Besides the unique architecture, the canals, the water buses, for what things does Venice stand for: the gondolas, the Murano glass and the masks of the Carnival. I entered a costume shop, and it was overwhelming, thousands of masks in all sizes, colors, and characteristics. Some look a little bit scary, some anonymous, some cover the half face, and others got surrounded by feathers. I have never been there at the Carnival, but once I should be. 🙂

2017-04-29  VENICE CANAL

It was about two miles west of the Piazza San Marco where I spied that canal embedded between those red and yellow houses. I was standing on an arched bridge and was concentrating on holding the camera steady. I like the outcome, looks a bit painterly, not typical for Venice, but typical for Italy. 🙂

I was standing on the balcony of the Basilica San Marco where I could film the St Mark’s Clocktower with the two men, hammering the clock.

2017-04-10  BREAKFAST ROOM IN VENICE

This breakfast room was so stylish that I wanted to take a photo in the evening when nobody was in there anymore, and I had time to place my tripod. The rays of these handblown lamps gave an interesting effect of light combined with the interior, the mirrors, and the greenish walls.

2017-03-26  THE OLD ANITQUES SHOPS

This photo looks like it was found in in old antique shop, between parchment books and drawings. In reality, Silver Efex Pro 2 did the work, which image content would fit better, than Venice?

2017-03-14 COLORFUL LIGHTNING IN THE NIGHT

This harmony of lights, water and buildings is unique in Venice. I took this photo from a driving water bus in the evening. Even the noise of higher ISO 12.800 of my Sony A7S looks not so bad because the conditions of the buildings look in the real world a bit like the noise of the photo. 🙂

2017-02-28 VENICE FROM THE WATER BUS

Although the cruise with the water bus lasted about 45 minutes, I spent the whole time on the deck outdoors. It was very cold and windy, I had my wool gloves on from which I capped the fingertips that I could hold my camera better. It was the Sony A7S, “King of low light”, which I needed for that shots, because to place a tripod was not possible on the water bus. 🙂

2017-02-21 GUINNESS BAR IN VENICE

I was a bit surprised to see that beer bar in Venice, they offered Irish Guinness, Belgian Leffe, Dutch Heineken… all draft  🙂  And the best thing, it was near our hotel, so before going back to the room, we turned into this bar for card games and some rounds of beer.
