2019-03-16 SIWSS GUARD IN ROME

Many decades will elapse, hard times and good times will come and go, cold weather and storms and hot temperatures, but Rome will stay. The eternal city, full of history and religion, with its massive and timeless buildings.

2019-03-15 BMW X6 IN VENICE

The waiting time for the ferry back to Piazza San Marco was about half an hour. Therefore I walked the promenade street on the Lido Venice up and down and made shots of driving cars in the night, which brought unique views of the vehicles.

2019-03-14 GROWING SKYLINE OF VIENNA

Many European cities are relatively flat compared to the US or Asian metropolises. There are dedicated quarters for the skylines in specific areas where are limited restrictions for design height. This is also true for Vienna near the Vienna International Centre, which was built between 1973-1979. In the last years, builders added well-designed skyscrapers at the surroundings.

2019-03-13 COWS AND BULLS ON THE ALP

On the descent from the mountain Schafsberg, my wife Karin and I came from the rocky alpine landscape where only a few pines grew into the zone of the green Alps. Suddenly we were surrounded by dozens of cows, where we quickly realized that some bulls were among them. They were all eager to eat, so we could pass unobtrusively without causing a stir. In Austria we have recently had incidents with cows and hikers, so it is better not to provoke the cows, and especially the bulls.

2019-03-12 STREETS OF BARCELONA

From my four days Barcelona-business-trip I reserved an evening and the following night for photo tours. No other of my colleagues were interested, so I was a lone ranger. Thy preferred to hang around with beer and wine, though I had that sociality for two nights anyway. I experienced a bridge with a good view of the streets below. There I placed my tripod and was ready to form some “light-painting” shots from the headlights of the driving cars.

2019-03-11 MUSEUM IN EDINBURGH

It has started raining on the streets of Edinburgh, and the next refuge was the Museum of Scotland. The entry was free and we a timeframe of one hour to explore before closing. The galleries over four floors impressed me. I thought about the composition, where I concluded that photos with a wide angle lens from a higher level would be appropriate. My museum tour was a photo tour also, with many shots of the exhibits and the interior architecture.

2019-03-10 FRESH MUSHROOMS

As I saw these mushrooms, I would have changed my bed-and-breakfast accommodation against an apartment with a kitchen immediately. I was dreaming about frying the yellow boletuses in olive oil and adding garlic. My wife Karin was thinking the same. But it stayed with taking a photo and then exploring the old town of Aix-en-Provence with a tuk-tuk train.

2019-03-08 THE NIGHT SETTLES OVER BORDEAUX

It was good to hear the first German words after a week in France. My wife Karin and I were at a stand-up bar, where we met a German couple. After a few minutes, I had to leave the conversation because I saw that beautiful evening sky. I snapped my camera and searched after the right composition. For the photos you want, you often have to go the extra mile. That’s worth it. After ten minutes I was back and could continue with my glass of red Bordeaux wine.

2019-03-07 JOGGER IN SCHÖNBRUNN

Schönbrunn Castle with the sizeable surrounding castle park brings many statues and monuments. They are built in the time of women emperor Maria Theresia. For many joggers, the area gives unique views and a diversified running ground from gravel to grass. An uphill run to the Gloriette, which you can see in the background on the photo, is an option for the athletic runners.
