2019-03-06 MOUNTAIN CHAIN NEAR SCHLADMING

From the Dachstein glacier, you get the view of the massive mountain chains of the Alps. I wonder if climbers were already on all the summits which I could see. The Dachstein Sky Walk was the platform for the photo, an observation deck for the people who are not afraid of heights.

2019-03-05 CHARLES BRIDGE IN THE MORNING

My son Dorian and I were visiting an Expo in Prague. We took a train-roundtrip which is about 4 hours in one direction between Vienna and Prague. On Sunday morning we had 3 hours spare time to visit the city, the first visit was the Charles Bridge from above. To get a great view, you have to enter the tower which lies on the city side. From there you get the view of the Vltava river, the Charles Bridge and the skyline in the background.

2019-03-04 INTENSE MORNING SUNRISE

On my way to work, I usually don’t have a camera with me. For the spectacular sunrise photo, which looked like a volcano had burst on the horizon, I took my iPhone. When I travel with my wife, I notice the flexibility and speed of photographing with smartphones. I dig the camera out of my bag, during which time my wife has already taken five to six photos with her mobile phone.

2019-03-03 NIGHTLY WALK IN VENICE

There are too few films shot in Venice. The scenery would be ideal for mystical conspiracy theories and secret societies. An old order of knights, hidden scrolls and disappeared persons would be the ingredients for a screenplay for a mystical movie in Venice. And then the dark streets and small bridges and the black water of the canals.

2019-03-02 HIGH SNOW IN FILZMOOS

Filzmoos is a small community in the UNESCO World Heritage Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape. My wife Karin and I had the opportunity to ride a horse-drawn carriage on an alpine pasture. There was lush snow, some houses were snowed in and only the roofs visible. During my photo session, I was stuck in the snow up to my knees.

2019-03-01 STRONG COFFEE IN JERUSALEM

In Europe, we know the coffee with coffee grounds on the bottom of the bowl as Turkish Coffee. In the bazaar in Jerusalem, I got a strong “Turkish Coffee” which kept me awake until late in the night. It was perfect because I had to drive to Tel Aviv which is about 2 hours. Since my wife Karin fell asleep as soon as we were sitting in the car, thanks to the coffee I stayed awake and could drive to the hotel safely.

2019-02-28 THE RAILWAY ON THE MOUNTAIN SUMMIT

The cog railway pushes itself up to 1732 m until it reaches the summit of the Schafsberg in Salzburg. A technical masterpiece from the architecture of the uphill tracks between rocks, on serpentines and on viaducts where you would have a free fall of hundreds of meters on one side. For the passengers it is safe, and you get a broad panorama when driving. It has been built in 1893 and still in full operation for the joy of visitors and mountain lovers.

2019-02-27 ACTION IN VENICE

On a Sunday before noon, the canals got crowded with Gondolas. They line up and bring their passengers through the street canyons. Some Gondolieres become acrobatic, they jump between Gondolas, prepare the empty ones for new drives. Mostly they are dressed in fashionable clothing. I wonder if one falls in the canal from time to time. However, it would be a funny scene.

2019-02-26 THE PAINTERS MOUNTAIN

Near the city of Aix-en-Provence lies the mountain Mont Sainte-Victoire. Also called the painters’ mountain, it appears on many pictures of Paul Cezanne and other painters of Southern France. I tried dozens of compositions to get the image right. Nowadays you have many high trees and power poles which disturb the best photo locations. However, I found some niches and now can present the mountain of the great painters.
