2019-01-06   BUDDHA IN ZEN GARDEN

In Langenlois I visited with my wife a show garden, which is famous for its winter decoration. After we were almost done with the sightseeing, I saw near the exit yet this Buddha statue. With the size of about 2 meters and the green illumination, I positioned myself and shot some nightly photos.

2019-01-05   WATER GAMES ON FIRE

Spectacular city of Dubai with spectacular water-shows in front of the Burj Khalifa. The lightning appears like water under fire. It starts at about 7 pm, I was in a hurry to get down with the speed lift from the Burj Khalifa. My wife stayed calm, but for me, it was essential to get some decent shots of the water parade.

2019-01-04   ICE COLD ICE II

A few days ago I posted an ice sculpture from the ice-hole on the glacier Dachstein in Styria, Austria. Today I show a different angle from the ice sculptures. You can imagine, that the ground floor is slippery, mostly it’s pure ice. So be careful with the camera equipment.

2019-01-03   HOUSE IN MALTA

The photo shows the view from my balcony of the Victoria Hotel in Malta. My time was short, due to a Christmas party, but my Google Pixel 2 did a great job with the night-sight feature.

2019-01-01   DARK CLOUDS OVER MORDOR

Here the Dolomites would give an appropriate scenery for the “Lord of the Rings” representing Mordor, with the cliff and the dark clouds hanging deep. For the actual movie, the filming location was the Tongariro National Park in New Zealand. Thanks to my DJI Phantom 4 Pro, I got that great photo of the Dolomites near Cortina d’Ampezzo.

2018-12-29   ON THE ROOF OF MILAN CATHEDRAL

I took the visitors package for Milan Cathedral with the roof exploration and entry in the church via a circular staircase. Walking on the roof is spectacular, so near to the cathedral combined with a great city view. This is the best way to recognize the architectural masterpiece. You can see hundreds of details that can not be seen from the street.

2018-12-28   STEAM LOCOMOTIVE

Slow and steady upwards, croaking and fuming, the steam locomotive on the Schafsberg has to go up until 1.783 meters. I had a very narrow stance and had to step back fast after shooting the photo. The train driver stayed cool; I think he saw many photographers already, however, he let the bugle sound, as a general warning.

2018-12-27   BORSA IN GENOA

Genoa was only a 1-hour train journey from Cinque Terre. My wife Karin and I took the opportunity to drive with Trenitalia. Genoa was in my mind as on old industry-city, but the opposite was exact. Magnificent buildings, full pedestrian streets and excellent food made for a fun afternoon. I could attend the Modigliani- and the Elliot Erwitt exhibition. A great painter and a great photographer on one day. 🙂

2018-12-26   FOR HORSE LOVERS

I was surprised, being in Edinburgh and never heard about “The Kelpies” before. My wife and I have seen it in a brochure on the breakfast table. Immediately the program for the day was clear. I stuffed all my photo-equipment in my backpack, and after an hour we arrived at the sculptures. The rain has stopped, only a few tourists, so I could fully explore and shoot these 30-meter-high horse-heads constructed from stainless steel.
