2018-12-17   BORDER BETWEEN MALAYSIA AND THAILAND

I did that shot from a driving motorboat in the direction of Thailand. Was this little island already on the Thailand-side? Does it belong to the islands of Langkawi? However, the photo shows the border on the Andaman Sea. It was beautiful, to see the sharp cliffs and dispersed islands of this area.

2018-12-16   AIRPORT ART IN SINGAPORE CHANGI

Even we were a bit late and were fastly going forward to the aperture gates; I stopped at that art installation. Those copper-metal drops changed direction in wavelike forms and positioned itself in new ways with every iteration. For the photo, I waited for the decisive moment. I intended to get as many drops as possible on the picture. Then I had to pack my camera back. My wife was a bit angry; she wouldn’t have waited any longer.

2018-12-15   MOUNTAIN TOP SCHAFBERG

The Schafberg in Upper Austria, standing on a mountaintop with a 360-degree view of valleys, lakes and the Alps gives you the feeling of being free. For exploring the mountain chain, my wife and I walked through a mountain pine forest, with men-high plants and arrived at a steep slope of hundreds of meters height.  Looking down gives you the feel of tingle under the skin, better to hold a respectful distance. My position was perfect for taking a photo of the abstract rocks. As the background, the horizon of the deeper valleys appear.

2018-12-14   SQUARE IN NANTES

I was searching after the “Jules Verne”-wall in Nantes when I entered that large square. I put the Samyang 14mm lens on my Sony A7R II and shot a wide angle photo with the square and some passengers in the foreground and the houses-front in the backend.

2018-12-13   VALLEY IN THE CANTON TICINO

My wife and I stayed a few days a the Lago Maggiore. One afternoon we took a trip to the backland of the Ticino. We arrived at a dam, where I shot that photo. I tried to catch the depth and height of this monument. I leaned a bit forward, but was completely safe, standing with both feet on the ground. 🙂

2018-12-12   HILTON BAR SAN FRANCISCO

The Hilton bar in San Francisco brings you a great view in all four cardinal directions, with windows reaching from the top to the floor. There are no optimal conditions for taking photos, no tripods allowed, shooting through reflective windows. As a photographer you cannot resist the view, so you have to try your best and make steady handheld shots, higher ISO, lower F-Stop. After your photo session, it’s easy to look after the right place for a drink and relax.

2018-12-11   PIAZZA DEL DUOMO

The most visited place in Milan, very touristic, where to find a photo spot? For me it was this picture, taking photos from people taking photos, a fresh perspective of the Piazza del Duomo. Then I was walking around, searching for the next motives. I found more and more, unusual angles, wide angles, and different foregrounds.

The Vienna Secession is a building for art exhibitions. In the cellar are wall-paintings from Gustav Klimt, after the entrance area in the ground floor, you can see that checkered room styling, with black, muscular man dolls.

2018-12-09   WAITING FOR MY WIFE

My wife should have come at 4 pm in the Löwelstrasse, Vienna, to pick me up for a ride to Gloggnitz. At 4 pm the phone rang, and she told me, that she is still at home, but is leaving soon and will be half an hour late. Instead of getting angry 🙂 , I took my Google Pixel 2 phone and walked in the nearby streets and in the Volksgarten to take some photos. I was lucky, because, in winter time, 4 pm is a good time for photo shooting, with the sinking sun and therefore more beautiful colors.

2018-12-08   THE TOUR DE MEDOC

What can one do in the Medoc? Driving from Chateau to Chateau and taking photos, that was what my wife Karin and I were doing. In most of the Chateaus, you can go around freely, shooting pictures and exploring the facilities. Two times we attended a behind-the-scenes tour where you get info about the wine production and at the end a tasting of excellent Bordeaux wines.
