2018-12-02   WINE TAVERN IN RETZ

We were a group of four when visiting the pumpkin celebrity in the wine-village Retz in northern Lower Austria. The whole village is decorated, dozens of market stands are lined on the streets, and a music band is playing. The typical wine taverns invite for a short break; they are called “Heuriger” in Austria. You get simple food, mostly bread with cheese or salty ham, pickles, and horseradish. The wine is mainly from the surrounding area, often in biological quality.

2018-12-01   COMBINING THE OLD WITH THE NEW

Often you see the combination with old and new styles in the interior design, walls with old bricks and cables, completed with brushed stainless steel, aluminum, and glass elements. For higher skyscrapers, you have to go to Toronto at least, to see a raw-brick building with a glass tower integrated.

2018-11-30   ALLEY OF PALM TREES IN SICILY

Since I was only one day in Sicily and we visited about five different villages via a touring bus, I can’t remember where I shot that photo of the palm tree-alley. I arrived in Sicily with a ferry from Malta, starting at 3 am and left with a ship to Malta at 8 pm. A day stuffed with impressions of this most southern island in Italy. A must see, partially a rough landscape, streets with serpentines, old stone buildings, and beautiful churches.

2018-11-29   PHOTO SHOOTING FROM THE WATER BUS

I was standing on the entry platform of the water bus. It was shaky, cold and gloomy, but it didn’t stop me from taking photos of the Canale Grande while driving on it. It is fascinating looking at the traffic, instead of a street there are water canals, instead of cars, there are boats and water buses. They all have their rules; traffic runs smoothly without any traffic jams.

2018-11-28   SUNSET WITH FOGGY MOUNTAINS

One of my last photos I shot from the observation tower Pyramidenkogel in Carinthia. Fog patches were hovering between the mountains; the sun was glowing in the background, the latest signs before the blue hour was over.

2018-11-27   CHRISTMAS HAS STARTED IN VIENNA

I was wandering back to a tram to get back to my car which was parking outside the city center.  On the way, I tried the new Google-Pixel Nightsight photo feature. A remarkable achievement programmed by the Google developers makes shooting night scenes easy with first-class results. It came handy that the first Christmas decors were out on the streets, so it was easy to find a motive.

2018-11-26   APPLE STORE IN CUPERTINO

The photo shows the Apple store directly in front of the new Apple headquarter. An architectural marvel, maybe a bit more designed and unique than the other stores. I hoped that we could also get a sightseeing tour of the new UFO-like building, but it’s closed for visitors. As a compensatory, there was an augmented reality iPad-tour in the store, through holding the iPads against a model of the new building you could look inside and saw the new virtual working world.

2018-11-25   PHILIPS BUILDING IN PRAGUE

After visiting the EVLS Fitness Expo in Prague, it was later in the evening when my son and I arrived at the hotel. I did my hotel-room routine, looking if the window can be opened and watching after possible photo compositions. Here I was lucky; the illuminated Philips-building was worth to take my Sony A7S out of the photo bag and take some night-shots before going to bed.

2018-11-24   MUSEUM ARCHITECTURE

It’s worth to look at and photograph the architecture of the Museum of Natural History in Vienna. Big colossal baroque style with many ornaments and paintings represent the museum. However the exhibits are already outdated; older stuffed animals stand in glass cabinets, not the newest styling which you expect from a modern museum. This was the reason, why my brother and his girlfriend were in the exhibition rooms, while I was walking around in the lobby with my cameras.

2018-11-23   BAD WEATHER IN LOCH LOMOND

My dream was to come to Loch Lomond with crystal clear sky and full sunshine. But during the drive, the more I approached to the Loch, the more the air got cloudy, and I ended with rain when I was at the Loch. The photo shooting took place nevertheless. Dark sky or not, I wanted photos from Loch Lomond. 🙂
