2018-08-30   BEACH BAR IN MALTA

Most of the Maltese beaches, you’ll find on the Northern side. I can’t remember the name, but that bar was typical, Aperol-Sprizz, Hugo, and Campari with ice. Lounge chairs outside, walls covered with reeds and white sun umbrellas for the heat. The mediterranean sea is very clear; you can see the water plants, fish, and starfish with the naked eye. A friend of mine told me, last time he even saw a ray near the beach.

2018-08-29   CRUISING ON THE DANUBE CANAL

Beside the different well-known sights in Vienna, it’s a good idea to jump on one of the cruising ships on the Danube Canal and have a good time cruising between graffitis, historic buildings and modern architecture. Some bridges will have artful parapets; you will see bike lanes, Hundertwasser-garbage recycling plant and modern hotels like the Sofitel Vienna.

2018-08-28   WATERWAYS IN STOCKHOLM

It’s interesting how the waterways and canals integrate with Stockholm. In this city, you can feel the harmony between all kinds of traffic in the variety of cars, bikes, boats, buses, taxis, Uber and sometimes Segways. A broad Eldorado where you can choose from, which makes transport more fun.

2018-08-27   PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION

The Hayward Gallery in London presented an Andres Gursky exhibition this year. It was one of the most significant photo collections I have ever seen. The sizeable 4×6 meter photos were impressive, one of a kind. Even the most expensive picture of all time, “Rhein II” was there. I took some photos of the collection with my Sony RX1R, the pocketable full frame camera.

2018-08-26   BARCELONA FROM PLACA DE LES CASCADES

The walking tour upstairs to the Placa de les Cascades was only about 20 minutes from my hotel. Since I was there in January, the waterfalls over the big stairs were off. They are open only during spring until fall. However, I got a great view over the city and started to shoot some photos with my tripod in all directions. Even in January, there are nice temperatures, and I extended my photo walk until late at night.

2018-08-25   THE LANDSCAPE OF LOWER AUSTRIA

I started my DJI Phantom 4 Pro from the peak of the Manhartsberg. This mountain has a height of 500 meters, the highest pike in Lower Austria. I flew over wine-terraces and then entered that broad landscape of agriculture, fields, and woods. I caught the panorama with the built-in 20 MP camera of the drone. I had to be careful that I didn’t “touch” any villages; otherwise I could lose my flying-permission. I have to stay away from any residential complex for 150 meters.

2018-08-23   CRYSTAL WORLDS IN WATTENS OUTSIDE

If you are in Tyrol, Austria I would recommend visiting the Swarovski Crystal Worlds. The exhibition area has an outside complex and interior viewing rooms. Andre Heller is the designer of the art installations and homogenous connected exhibits, galleries, and sculptures. You should plan a half day to get an overview and sufficient impressions of that art spectacle. To gain insight, I added a photo, more from the abstract side.

2018-08-22   CANALS OF MILAN

I had some roundtrips to find a parking lot at the Canals of Milan. It is very crowded during the nighttime, and everyone wants a good time at the water with a cool breeze. I could use the car-sharing platform Car2Go in Milan, though my registration city is Vienna. A good thing that you can use the car rentals in all European cities where Car2Go is active. Formerly they offered Smarts only; now you get Mercedes A-class too.

2018-08-21   RAINY DAY IN ISTANBUL

Coming out of the Grande Bazaar we were caught up by heavy rain showers. No time to buy some fodder for feeding the doves. But they stayed pretty calm and waited for better times, which didn’t come on that day.

2018-08-20   THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC

Thank you for the music and thank you for the show, magnificent and spectacular Cirque Du Soleil. Seen in the hometown, in the tent in Toronto. With my camera at the ready, I tried to catch the decisive moments. I had to balance the right mixture from ISO, shutter speed, and f-stops, because of the dim lights, the movements on the stage and my situation with the hand-held camera.
