2018-04-06   HOUSES IN THE CITY PRAGUE

The symmetric house-fronts with the orange-ocher or brown colors are typical for Prague. I took the photo from the end of the Charles Bridge, after which you come into the old town.

2018-04-04   INSIDE A HOTEL IN PRAGUE

Prague is a city with unique characters, have a look at the bridges, streets, buildings, and hotels. A picturesque scenery, where you won’t give your camera out of hand. I took this photo on the first floor of the Hotel Imperial, the levels have thick carpets, the doors to the room and the door-frames consist of massive wood. Windows are in art nouveau – style.

2018-04-03   SHOPPING CENTER IN SINGAPORE

This shopping center was near the Art and Science Museum in Singapore, a massive building with impressive architecture. Again I could use a parapet of the railing to place my Sony A7R II without a tripod. Ramparts are a solid tripod replacement which many shopping centers “offer.” Often these centers are an architectural marvel from which you should make a photo. Mostly the indoor lights are a bit dim, so the camera placement is essential to avoid blurry images.

2018-04-02   SAILING ON A STEPPE-LAKE

Lake Neusiedl has a size of about 315 km2 (122 sq mi), and the lake is no more than 1.8 m (5 ft 11 in) deep. It’s very popular with sailers and kite-surfers. At the shores you can find lake-restaurants, cafes and beaches to chill out and look at the flat surface of the lake.

2018-04-01   HEATHER END OF WINTER

The last remnants of the winter, snow on the scrawny grass, fog and cold wind gusts over a heather west of Vienna. You can feel that these are the last breathers of the winter before the spring season starts. I took that panorama-photo with my small Nikon Coolpix A (the pocket DSLR) and stitched the original three photos in Photoshop. Initially, it was planned to fly with my DJI drone. But a light drizzle prevented my intend, so I stayed with the standard hand-held shots.

2018-03-31   CHARLES BRIDGE IN PRAGUE – THE PHOTO HOT SPOT

The most famous photo hot-spot in Prague is the Charles Bridge and its surroundings. You should try to get upstairs into one of the towers; there you can take the shots from above. Be careful with your time; they close at about 8 pm. I was lucky, that not too many tourists were on their way. I wouldn’t recommend a standard tripod because the place is limited on the towers. A mini-tripod is enough; you can place it between the embrasures and keep the camera better under control. The worst what could happen will be if a passenger brushes the tripod during a multi-exposure shot.

2018-03-30   MARKET IN ROME

I arrived in Rome at 7:30 am, my appointment at the authority AAMS was not before 11 am. I visited a stand-up cafe bar where I took an espresso and ate an Italian vanilla croissant, which had that typical harmonic taste. The rest of my spare time, I used to wander through an Italian market, where you got all, from vegetables to bags, from books to clothing. After some rounds, I was ready to attend my business meeting, doped up from all the coffee.

2018-03-29   MODERN HOTELS

This construction reminds me of album covers from electronic music bands, like from the French band “Air” with the album “10,000 Hz Legend”. On the photo is the modern building addition to the hotel Schloss Velden. The original building looks like a renovated castle. Th hotel stands at the beautiful lake “Wörther See” which is renowned for its clean water which has drinking water quality.

2018-03-28   CLIFFS NORTH OF DUNDEE

During my stay in Scotland, I wanted to visit the location where the cliffs start. Since my hotel and main-stay were in Edinburgh, the nearest cliffs I could find with Google Maps were north of Dundee. I took the trip with a rented Volkswagen Passat, which had only 400 miles on the speedometer. At the parking lot, I took my DJI Phantom 4 Pro and went up the walkway to the cliffs. At a flat patch of grass, I started the quadcopter and could get some decent shots of the coast. Because of the strong winds over the sea, the flight was shorter than thought; I got the “connection lost” message on the DJI app and had to fly home by hand, because “return to home” function didn’t work. Lucky that I haven’t lost my drone.
