2020-09-22 ROUGH SEA IN SYLT

The concrete barriers create the necessary resistance against the stormy North Sea. This scene results in an excellent photo motif. The northern lights, the surf, and the fine beach are a perfect symbiosis on Sylt’s island.

2020-09-21 FRESH HERBS FOR THE HOTEL GUESTS

The Schatzalp Hotel in Davos has a special goodie for its guests. Fresh herbs from the in-house herb gardens. They have about a dozen herb gardens with hundreds of herbs; cleary signed and separated. This structure makes it easier for the kitchen assistant to find their way around. For the photo, I used the combination of the new Sony A7R IV with the older Leica Elmar 35-70 F4 R lens.

2020-09-19 ENTRY TO GENOVA

The photo shows the entry street to Genova. From the parking garage, we went up with the escalator and started to explore the city. And from this point, we could not see any cars; the streets were to narrow. Which is a good thing in the Italien city; I like the motor scooters more.

2020-09-17  DARK CLOUDS OVER THE MOUNTAINS

Sometimes you get more spectacular clouds than the mountains itself. The weather didn’t turn out as bad, as the clouds would have forecasted. But I didn’t know before, so I took the cable car back to the valley instead of walking.

2020-09-15  THE ICE CREAM PARLOR ATTRACTS EVEN IN THE NIGHT

Even at night, you can’t get ice cream without standing in line. The fixed points in the Italian cities are the ice cream parlors. They ensure a pleasant get-together and sweeten the last hours of the day.

2020-09-14  BRICK BUILDINGS IN HAMBURG

The brick buildings are one of my favorites in Hamburg. I like the straight forward structures and the thousands of bricks that ensure a unique appearance. The picture was shot from the Elbphilharmonie to bring the Speicherstadt in perspective.

2020-09-12  THE HARBOR IN HAMBURG

For exploring the harbor in Hamburg, I would start in St. Pauli. There you have some Fisch-Restaurants and the authentic flair which makes Hamburg. Men are sitting with beer and fish rolls, watching the bustle of ships and boats.

2020-09-10  THE NEW ITALY

Are you looking at Cinque Terre? This Italy is not real; it is one part of the Italian exhibition in the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg. It is an extravaganza for a modeling freak, half of the world is built already. You can see hundreds of trains, buildings, and mountains all in miniature format.

2020-09-08  FOOTBALL IN GENOVA

On the way back to the parking lot, I saw that soccer field. Sportspeople were playing football in the middle of Genova. Between highways and streets with cars, a photo which represents Italian city life.

2020-09-06  THE SWISS MOUNTAINS

My wife Karin worked for one year in Switzerland. Though it was thirty years ago, she wants to see Switzerland now and then. In August we made a 2-day trip, where I could get some mountain-peak photos. Always fascinating how clean and neat this country is. I wondered how many Jews I saw in Davos and Klosters, and I had them on my photo too. It seems it is a popular holiday destination for them.
