2017-08-08  THE WHITE SCULPTURES OF GLORIETTE VIENNA

The Sculptures of the  Gloriette in Schönbrunn impressed me, so gracefully and artfully crafted, this pure white, the height, the different motives like lions, soldiers, and shields. One is like the copy of the other; they look the same and enhance the building and the stairway and remind you of the past times of the emperor. If you are in Schönbrunn, don’t shy away from the march up to the Gloriette, you get rewarded with architecture and a great view over Vienna.  🙂

2017-08-07  SWISS ROCKS

“Hard as a rock” – this AC/DC song is a synonym for that photo. During a tour through Ticino, I saw that crystal clear river which flows in that couloir. I tried to find an opportunity to place my feet into that water for refreshment, but due to the steep, wet rocks, it was too dangerous. I stayed with shooting some photos from a little bridge, where I could place my tripod accordingly.

2017-08-06  BUYING CARS IN TOKYO

The Mega Web Toyota Theme Park shows you big exhibition halls with all the new models, and as a special goody, you can drive the cars on a race track. I was very excited about this but then disappointed because driving was only allowed to Japanese, or Europeans with an international, “translated” drivers license, but who has that? So I looked after other attractions, I tried some Virtual 3D simulators and video racing games, looked at future concept cars with hydrogen, and into the showroom with the new cars to sell. I saw many models, which are not available in Europe, but they should, looking kind of cool.  🙂   I don’t know if this couple had at least decided to buy that car, but they looked very interested.

2017-08-05  THE TOWN OF SCHLADMING

Schladming is a famous winter resort, which has developed into a year round holiday- and event location. It lies between mountains up to 2000 m / 6500 ft. The most prominent is the Planai, where the ski races take place. In the summer months, there are many hiking trails, natural swimming baths, and several courses via ferrata for the braver visitors. For this photo, I had to cross a curvy street and was standing on a steep meadow, with little place to move. From time to time you have to take some risk  🙂

2017-08-04  ASIAN GIRL IN STOCKHOLM

I was waiting for my wife, who was on a short shopping spree, sitting on a socket beneath a window, my photo bag resting on my knees. Perfect situation for doing people shots, I had my big and heavy Sony Zeiss 135mm 1.8 A-Mount lens with me and mounted it via the LA-EA3 adapter on my Sony A7R II. I did these shots with manual focusing, with the support of focus peaking at the mirrorless camera. My “boring” waiting time converted immediately into an exciting photo session.  🙂

2017-08-03  HERE COMES THE SUN

“Here comes the sun, Here comes the sun, and I say it’s all right” © George Harrison.
I took that photo on the Italian west coast, one hour south of Genova. You could sell this shot also like the Caribbean, Cuba, Thailand, … however an always great motive, sea, sun, palms. 🙂

2017-08-02  GRAFFITI IN THE NIGHT

Vienna has expanded big with graffiti and street paintings in recent years. At the Danube canal, you will see graffiti for miles. Sometimes you get interesting compositions, like here with newly built residences and stacked graffiti paintings.

2017-08-01  COAST AT CINQUE TERRE

After exploring Cinque Terre from the land side, we decided to give it a try from the sea. At the boat rental, we got a rubber dinghy with an outboard engine and a handgrip for navigation. After a 3 hour tour where I could take some shots despite the rough sea, where I had to balance my body and the shot to stay in the boat and protect my equipment from the water. Then my wife got a bit sea sick, and with 35 C / 95 F, we felt a sunburn, despite the sun-blocker we used, which had sun protection factor 30. All in all, it was a  little (photo) adventure.  🙂

On Friday I watched DUNKIRK in IMAX 2D which was a very intense experience. Filmed in the IMAX format with analogous and hand cameras created sceneries where you felt to be part of it. The movie was a very authentic and partially filmed like a documentary. A masterpiece, fully recommended. *****

2017-07-31  QUTB MINAR – THE SPECTACULAR TOWER

From the dozens of overwhelming impressions in New Delhi, the Qutb Minar was one of my favorites. Building started in 1192, it is made of sand stone and marble and has many gravures and ornaments. Qutb Minar is a highly frequented area where many Indians as well as tourists from the whole world visit. It was very a hot that day, outside at the parking place, there were some puddles of dirty water, where some of the wild dogs of New Delhi took a bath for cooling down. 🙂 For getting a different look at that photo, I did post processing with Nik Analog Efex Pro 2.

2017-07-30  ASCONA AT LAKE MAGGIORE

Ascona lies at the Lake Maggiore in Ticino, the southmost canton of Switzerland. The vegetation is a mixture of alpine woods and bushes and Mediterranean plants. The southern part of the lake already belongs to Italy. The water is very clean, and in the middle of the lake, there is an island with a neat botanical garden.
