2017-06-20  ZUCCHERO CONCERT ON THE MOUNTAINS

The Tyrolese ski resort Ischgl brought Italian superstar Zucchero (=sugar) for this year’s ski season closing concert. The show occurred on the Idalp, a mountain plateau at 2307m (2522 yds). Year by year about 20,000 people find their way up to this concert arena, which only can be reached by ski lifts. For me, it was one of the relatively rare occasions where I could use my Tele lenses. The event starts about 1 pm and lasts for about 3 hours, where party atmosphere takes place.  🙂 You got a cool Italian Prosecco/Aperol spritz drink.

The arena:

Closer to Zucchero, here I used my Sony FE 70-200 F/4 lens:

2017-06-19  TOKYO AT NIGHT FROM ABOVE

I did that shot handheld from the parachute attraction in the amusement park near Tokyo Dome. On the wobbly platform during the night, high iso was a must. This shot represents what I love about Tokyo, the streets, the endless sea of buildings and houses and the lights. For some shots, I think you have to do them, regardless if the conditions are perfect for doing photos. I gladly accept some grain if the angle and outcome look cool.

2017-06-18  PIRANHAS IN THE OFFICE

In that office, where I attended a technical lecture about Citrix Netscaler, office space was separated by aquariums. That one shown in the photo was the most interesting because the population was piranhas. I had the luck that I could see the feeding; the food looked like dry dog food. The piranhas were fast like an arrow while snapping after the food. Better not go bathing in the Amazon while they are hungry. 🙂

2017-06-17  ONCE THE BIGGEST SHIP ON EARTH

The Vasa had a long building phase of 2 years but a very short life on the sea for about some hours, it foundered after sailing about 1,300 m (1,400 yds). The ship is a giantism, unbelievable massive wooden construction, many artful sculptures. But the superstructure was too big, that led to the inglorious end.

2017-06-16  VINEYARDS AND FIELDS

The endless vineyards of the “Weinviertel” bring mostly white wines like, “Grüner Veltliner,” Riesling, Chardonnay, and Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains. The last two are the sweeter ones; those are more my taste. 🙂  In the little wine houses are cellars which go deep into the earth with the natural temperature for ripening of the wine in hogsheads.

2017-06-15  BRIDGES IN BERLIN

Germany’s capital is a historical extravaganza, especially the occurrences you remember happened not hundreds of years ago, some are dated back only centuries. There’s the Checkpoint Charlie, “Unter den Linden,” the relics of the wall, the Reichstag, the Brandenburger Tor. I took a hop on, hop off – bus, with good weather and the open deck, the best way to explore the city on a higher level. And some modern architecture will impress you, too.

2017-06-14  FLIGHT TO CASTLE KREUZENSTEIN

Castle Kreuzenstein was built back in the 12th century. It is located on a hill  265 metres (869 ft) above sea level, surrounded by mixed forest. It is very popular for castle tours and highly frequented on weekends. This is the reason why I started early on Saturday forenoon, beginning with filming the fields of the area, coming nearer to the castle and getting it more and more in focus.

2017-06-13  CRYSTAL JELLYFISH

The Swarovski Crystal Worlds bring a new surprise in every room you enter. Where have you ever seen a crystal jellyfish in this colorfulness? In most of the rooms it’s dark, so take lenses with 1.4 or 1.8 F-stops and a camera which is capable of shooting high iso in good quality. I took my Sony Zeiss 24mm F2 and Sony A7S. Tripods are not allowed, often the rooms are small, and a steady flow of visitors are going.

2017-06-12  TOUR THROUGH CLEVELAND

My wife’s cousin Ewald, who is a Psychiatrist, showed us, Cleveland. We started at Lake Erie; next stop was Museum of Rock, next stop downtown, then a football arena, then the hospital where he works. Last but not least we ended in the “Hofbräuhaus.”  Since his parents are Austrian and immigrated in the 50’s to Chicago, he also has some German roots. The beer was good, but the food, 😥 , I think the cook was never in the real Hofbräuhaus. 🙂

2017-06-11  DOZENS MOUNTAINTOPS

As far as the eye can reach, mountains and mountaintops, the Alps. My place was a comfortable observation deck, where I could catch the rocky nature with my lenses. 🙂 Mountains and snow, an ever classical motive.
