2017-06-04  THE GARDENS OF SCHÖNBRUNN

It would be interesting to know if the gardens of Schönbrunn existed in that form during the time of Empress Maria Theresia? I think so. However today these chopped shrubs give a beautiful picture of symmetry and art. For the gardener it’s “a never-ending story,” there are hundreds of those bushes, with finishing the last one, you can go to number 1 and start over again because the growth of the leaves doesn’t stop. 🙂

2017-06-03  COLORFUL HOUSES IN THE NIGHT

Velden in Carinthia is a touristy destination; there you will see this cool lighting of the buildings and streets in the night. They bring accents of pink on house fronts, yellow on the streets, light bands wounded around the trees. Since my hotel was middle of town, it was easy to take the tripod with me, which allowed those night shots with longer exposure. Although nearly nobody likes to carry tripods, the outcome is worth it. 🙂 I prefer to place it on the middle-back of my photo backpack, with a bag where you have to place the tripod on the side, gives you an unbalanced feel with time, the more easy, the bigger the chance that you get it with you.

2017-06-02  ROBOTICS FUN

Attending the Citrix World Conference in Bonn was technically fascinating, but the fun part got not too short. The great attraction was this robot, named NOX. He could walk around, dance to music, speak with people, and had a good time. When he was in full swing with walking, the crowd in front of him cleared very fast. But he was a big guy with an iron heart of gold. 🙂

2017-06-01  HOTEL IN STOCKHOLM FOR LUNCH

My wife and I entered this hotel after searching for a light lunch meal, like a salad or fresh seafood. And that was what we got, very good  🙂  I discovered that order/payment method there, many times in Stockholm: choosing and ordering the food in front of the cashier, paying immediately, getting a number and then searching a table. I found it very practical, faster and more efficient than the traditionally ordering in restaurants.

2017-05-31  NATURAL OBSERVATION DECK

My Sunday walking session brought me to that observation plateau on a hill in “Lainzer Tiergarten.” The way was steadily 5 miles upward, and my wife Karin and me were happy, that we have finally reached the peak of the hill, where we got that view as a reward. It was a bit windy, what we welcomed because we were sweating, we had underestimated the hot weather and were clothed too heavily.

2017-05-30  SWEDISH CROWN ON AN IRON FENCE

I wondered how long it was bright as day in Stockholm; this photo was taken at about 10 pm, no signs of dusk. This time combined with warm weather at about 27/80 C/F gave a new feeling how to discover the night. Here you see the royal palace. There was also a guard a the entrance, who had a gaze like most of the security guards. The building was lovely, but not so dramatic as the king’s palaces in London or Paris.

2017-05-29  TORONTO FROM MY HOTEL ROOM

This photo was the view from my hotel room in Toronto, cool, eh? The first thing before I unpacked my suitcase was to take an HDR shot of this modern building. I like the placement of the elements of the white building blocks. A good contrast to the gray background gives a sculptural, plastic look. I had to photograph through window glass, which I try to avoid, but the window was clean, so I gave it a try, and it worked out not so bad. 🙂

2017-05-28  BLACKBIRD FLY

Do you remember the Beatles song, “Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly…” 🙂  Some black birds were sitting on the observation deck of the glacier “Hoher Dachstein,” I used the opportunity to take some birding shots. They flew with high velocity, doing curves up and down, approached to descent flight, got straight up; I had to raise the shutter speed to get sharp pictures, you had to be very fast to follow them during flight.

2017-05-27  GREEN GOLF LAWN

At our company’s golf tournament in Adamstal, I was an onlooker. I don’t play golf and made the decision in advance, to rely more on photography. I took my camera and quadcopter and drove with the golf caddy between the courses to take some shots of the gorgeous green lawns and trees which encircled some golf courses. The weather was beautiful and hot, so I had to stop at the lodges for some drink and food, more often than I thought. 🙂  I had my friend Christoph with me, he is a wedding photographer and did some people shots with his Canon 5D Mark III. For me, it was an excellent opportunity to test the Samyang FE 14 mm 2.8 AF lens, which is a good and sharp wide angle lens.

2017-05-26  THE LAST SHOT BEFORE LEAVING BURANO

The three-island-hopping started with Murano, then Torcello and ended with Burano. That is this little fisherman’s village which is world-renowned, because of the colorful, neat houses built at the canals. We had 50 minutes to explore the city. Before leaving, on the railing of the boat, I did that last shot which shows Burano at twilight. It also signaled the end of a day, where I walked endless miles with my photo bag.  🙂
