2017-04-25  10.000 LITERS OF WINE

During a weekend in southern Styria where my wife attended a health care workshop, I used the afternoon to explore the region. On a hill, I saw an older building. First I thought it was a knight’s castle, then it emphasized that it was a monastery. Although I didn’t see a monk, I visited that large wine cellar, with dozens of barrels full of wine. I think there ripened tens of thousands liters of red and white wine. I got the opportunity for some tastings 🙂 and couldn’t resist taking a photo of this cellar.

2017-04-24  GRADO IN ITALY FROM THE ROOF

To get a photo like this, you only have a few options. Get on top of a hotel roof, climb an observation tower or start a drone and get an aerial photo. The drone is risky without permission; the observation tower was not existent, then I got with the hotel elevator on the top floor and placed my tripod between the deck chairs, prepared for the bathers of the hotel pool. A bit effort is required to get the shots you want 🙂

2017-04-23  CAFE KARLSPLATZ

That is one of the lesser famous Cafes of Vienna, actually a no-name, although it has a name.  🙂  There are hundreds of Cafes like this, old interior, gray curtains, neon letters at the entry, earning a living mostly with patrons and retirees, which are playing card games or poker, chatting, watching TV and discussing politics.

2017-04-22  WINTER CAME BACK TO AUSTRIA

Suddenly temperature dropped, snow and sleet were back, and we have -3/26 C/F.  I had to grab my winter jacket again which I already stored in the “winter box.” But outside in nature, for example, the brows with conifers got a nice, snowy touch, worth to take a photo. 🙂

2017-04-21  BUTTERFLY IN THE CIRCUS

In Toronto, I used the opportunity to watch Cirque Du Soleil in its hometown. They organized parking well; we had to walk about 10 minutes then came the circus area with the tent. The size was similar to other locations where I have seen the Cirque, but the performance Luzia was the most entertaining I have seen so far.

2017-04-20  FOG BETWEEN THE MOUNTAINS

Interesting to see the fog hanging over the valley and getting its yellow color from the sun. A spectacle of nature you only see in the mountains, you nearly think, a painter has done this. 🙂

2017-04-19  STREET IN TOKYO

I don’t know exactly where in Tokyo I did that shot; I think it was near the Skytree in the twilight. My visit in that city was a flow of long walking distances, steady subway drives and occasionally a cab ride. I had a pocket wifi rental (an obligation in Tokyo) with me, and I was totally impressed by Google Maps. It knew all Subway stations and train transfers and showed it correctly even on my iWatch  🙂

2017-04-18  HORSES ON THE ALPS

The Alps with a horse-drawn carriage, a classical theme. Our driver was a typical native of Filzmoos, a village embedded between mountains. During the coach tour, he told stories about mountain spirits and the famous novel “Heidi”, from Swiss author Johanna Spyri. He was dressed in a vest made of goatskin and had a hat with feathers and little bells attached. 🙂

2017-04-17  BRIDGE IN SEATTLE ON A RAINY DAY

With the tourist attraction “Ride the Ducks” you are in an amphibious vehicle which can drive on the streets and also can ride the water. It’s great fun, and during the sea tour, I could get this photo of a bridge in Seattle. The whole day was gloomy, but I like the combination of gray clouds with industrial bridges.

2017-04-16  EASTER SUNDAY ON AN EASTER MARKET

In Europe Easter is the second biggest feast after Christmas. It’s a bit similar; you have the Easter market, children will also get presents, but all in slighter extent than at Christmas. But instead of a Christmas tree, you have to search for hidden Easter eggs, which are colorful dyed. It also signals the end of the winter and the skiing season.
