2018-10-31   BLUE GRAPES IN THE MEDOC

The grapes were hanging very near to the ground. One of the secrets of the world-famous Bordeaux wines? I asked Alain, the owner of the littlest winery in the Medoc. The vines and their placement and the style of binding and growing get practiced since generations, he told me. However, I am happy that they understand their craft, the output is fabulous wine.

2018-10-30   BUILDINGS IN TOKYO

After a long subway drive, we entered an area of Tokyo, called Odaiba. Our target was the Mega Web Toyota Theme park. Before joining I shot photos from the surrounding, a great place with modern buildings.

2018-10-29   WAY BACK FROM THE THREE MERLONS

For all mountain adventurers, mountain lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, I recommend visiting the “Three Merlons” or Tre Cime di Lavaredo, in the Sexten Dolomites of northeastern Italy. The landscape on the mountain peak reminded me of episodes of the Star Trek original series. With the foggy and rainy day, I was barely alone with my wife on the Dolomites. My Fuji X-T1 could resist the rain, photo-shooting was no problem at all.

2018-10-28   IT’S NOT ONLY THE CABLE CAR

It’s fun and exciting to watch the different types of trams in San Francisco, besides the Cable Car. They have different wagons and styles, colors like green, red, grey and blue and roll through the city, from station to station and give every photographer one more reason to come and visit. This night shot is an example for one advantage of smartphones for photo shooting. Suddenly I heard the tone of the tram, and it was approaching the station, and I shot the scene with my Google Pixel II XL immediately. With my Sony A7R II in the photo bag, the shot would have gone lost.

2018-10-27   SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN THE AUTUMN

The scenery of a typical Sunday afternoon autumn walk, yellow and orange leaves, some swans on a lake and a cloudy sky. First, my wife Karin, my daughter Cara and I took a pick-up train to the Laxenburg Lake. Then we walked around and had to take the ferry, to cross the lake. It was only about 30 meters distance; thus the price was only 60 cent per person. Funny, I have never seen such a little ferry with such a short distance to overcome.

2018-10-26   HOUSE IN EDINBURGH

Coming from the old town and at approaching the castle square of The Iconic Edinburgh Castle you will see the house on the photo on the right side. Even not as spectacular as the castle, it’s worth a photo for its complex architecture, size, shape and color coordination. A highlight in this historically rich city. For the deep blue sky, I merged 5 hdr-photos from -3,7 to +4,3 EV.

2018-10-25   THE PERFECT STOCK OF CHAMPAGNE

Built from millions of bricks, the big cellars of Schlumberger stock thousands of bottles of finest champagne. I went from cellar-vault to cellar-vault, placed the tripod and shot the arcs and walls. The exhibition areas were beefed up with lightning, bottles, and stories of the wine-fermentation. And the good thing, tripods were welcomed, that’s not often the case.

2018-10-24   THE WAY HOME TO THE HOTEL

From the “Cisco Live” conference we chose the foot walk back to the hotel. That was fully in my interest because I could take some photos of the great architecture of Barcelona, while my colleagues were talking about the upcoming evening activities. Currently, I am thinking of attending “Cisco Live” again; it’s only three months until the event starts. And a good time to take some evening photos of the city.  🙂

2018-10-23   RAPTORS OVER THE MOUNTAINS

I arrived on top of mountain Schafsberg with the cogwheel railway. This area is well-known for heavy raining and dust, even in the summer months.  I was happy and surprised that the weather was beautiful this day. Nothing could stop me from my photo-adventure on the mountain-tops. My wife Karin dared to climb a steeper wall, only with sneakers on. I stayed at the bottom of the steeper part because my photo-equipment was hanging down and my heavier body-weight. However, I was high enough for shooting mountain-photos with raptors.

2018-10-22   THE PILLARS OF THE MILAN CATHEDRAL

The big European cathedrals and domes are impressive buildings. Planned with gigantic dimensions, made from huge stones and concrete, show the signs of stability. Built for the millenniums with overwhelming sizes. I was in Milan with my wife and brother- and sister-in-law for one day only, and the most part we spent on the roof and pathways and hall of the Milan Cathedral.
