2019-05-26 THE WINE-CITY RETZ

The city of Retz is famous for wine and pumpkins. On the central plaza stands a church in the middle. Beneath the church is a down-stairs entry to the wine-cellars of Retz. They are an underground extravaganza, which tunnels under kilometers of the historical city center. Better go with a guide, nobody wants to get lost in the dark cellars.

2019-05-25 SUPERTREE IN ALL ITS GLORY

I wanted to go down from the bridge; I tried to stand directly before a Supertree. After the lightning show ended, I went into the park and looked from bottom to the top. I admired the architects and designers for that innovative work. The range in height is between 25 and 50 meters; they connect via a 128-meter long walkway.

2019-05-24 GUARDIANS STANDING TIGHT

The main entry to Prague Castle with the security guards reminded me of London where the guardians are not allowed to move or show any emotions. The best situation for a photographer, you have enough time for the compositions without the apprehension that the scene will change.

2019-05-23 APPLE STORE IN MILAN

Where is the most spectacular Apple store in the world? I think Milan belongs to the top ranks. The glass wall with the integrated waterfall on a downstairs located shop is an architectural masterpiece. I didn’t search after it, I saw the store by accident and positioned myself to find the perfect composition.

2019-05-22 WOODEN ROOM WITH DEER ANTLERS

I was visiting with my brother Christian the Eckartsau Castle. This is the location for his wedding, two weeks before we were visiting the premises to get a feel for the different rooms, where the wedding will take place. Very important to me, I will be the wedding photographer. Good preparation is the key to successful projects. In my mind, I formed already my shooting locations. The castle is rich in history, it was the hunting chateau of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria.

2019-05-21 MY WIFE SHOT WITH THE LEICA

Since I own the Leica M240 I’m inclined to do portrait photos favorably with this camera. Combined with the Summicron 50 F2 lens, it gives you beautiful colors and smooth bokeh. Often I wonder, what to do in post-processing. Pictures are so good, that you can use OOC (out of the camera) more often, then with any other camera, I know.

2019-05-20 SUNSET IN BARCELONA

The warm sunset fills your body, I loved this evening walk back to the hotel. These 2 miles brought me the sunset, great architecture and the streets with the motor-bikers. From time to time I stopped for a photo or a coffee. A mini adventure which I wouldn’t miss.

2019-05-17 THE STREETS OF BARCELONA

The warm climate and the sheer speed are the reasons why so many motor-scooters are on the move on the streets of Barcelona. It’s easy to maneuver around the waiting cars and get at the pole positions at the stop lines before the traffic lights. Spain and Italy are the classic countries with more motorcycles and scooters on the street than cars.

2019-05-16 ART MUSEUM IN VIENNA

I made this snapshot with my Sony A7R 2 and the Novoflex adapter for Leica M. I used the Elmarit 28mm 2.8 V4 lens, a great companion for the Sony camera. I wondered how excellent the image performance is. No weak points with this combo, however, be aware, that you cannot use autofocus. But with the (red) focus peaking manual focus works flawlessly.

2019-05-15 TOKYO VENDING MACHINE

One of the fascinating things in Tokyo was the vast amount of vending machines. I used them frequently, buying cold coconut- or aloe vera-drinks — the perfect break for a photography session. I also liked the non-sweetened ice tea. In Europe mostly you get sweetened soft drinks in the vending machines, which is not suitable for me as a fitness-oriented guy.
