2020-05-29 THE DOOR OF THE CASTLE

I revisited the wedding castle of my brother Christian, together with his wife. Such old buildings often bring unique opportunities for photos. When I saw the entrance with the incoming sunlight, it was immediately apparent what the picture of the day would be. I waited until some action occurred. The Eckartsau castle was the hunting lodge of the Austrian heir to the throne, Franz Ferdinand.

2020-05-27 CLEAN ENERGY IN THE NETHERLANDS

Wind, water, and green grass with windmills were my view on the northern bays of the Netherlands. I was the captain of a houseboat, and I often gave the steering wheel to my son, when I was on the deck shooting photos. The silence of the rotating wind turbines was a comforting sight.

2020-05-26 CONEY ISLAND VISIT

For me, there were three reasons to visit Coney Island. First, a visit to Nathan’s Hot Dogs was the order of the day. Second, I wanted to see the backdrop of many films, including “The Warriors.” Third, I’m a fan of David Bowie and the song “Slip Away.” My expectations were fulfilled—a great area with show booths, fairground flair, and the charm of bygone days.

2020-05-25 ITALY OPENS ON JUNE 3RD

Great that the first steps back to normal are in place. I cannot wait to revisit Italy. Italy opens its borders on June 3rd. However, Austria has to change its current law, where everyone has to go to a two-week quarantine after returning from Italy. That will change within the next weeks too, I think.

2020-05-23  NIGHTLY WAY HOME

While walking home from a festival, I got that view from the Millenium Tower in Vienna. It was a full moon, which made the picture more interesting. Since I had no tripod with me, I did a handheld shot in the night, which I had to balance accordingly.

2020-05-22  WALKING SELFIES

I was never a friend of selfies. I wouldn’t say I like the wide-angle faces on the photos. However, I prefer to shoot pictures of people doing selfies. In the later afternoon, when the sunlight falls on the streets, it is always a good time for street photography.

2020-05-21  THE GREEN IN THE JAPANESE GARDEN

The refreshing and shade-giving green with the sun shining through the branches. Always a pleasure for me to walk through the Japanese garden. The selection and placement of the plants result in a harmonious whole.

2020-05-20  THE CARNIVAL

I expected hundreds of showmen to walk around the streets in full makeup in my imagination about the Venice Carnival. In reality, I could hardly find people who matched my meaning. I was already satisfied with my photos of the opening of the carnival. Then I could see this couple in full splendor the day after. I did not miss this opportunity and was able to come up also with classic photos.

2020-05-18  BIKER IN THE BURGGARTEN

On some Sundays, I am catching the hustle and bustle in the parks and on the streets. The castle garden is a park landscape decorated with lawn, bushes and rose hedges that invite you to stroll and cycle.

2020-05-17  LIBRARY IN VENICE

I cannot remember in which library I was, but I can remember that I was on a walking tour which lasted for hours. And I came home with thousands of photos. I am looking forward to revisiting Venice; the borders should open soon. For me, it’s only a five-hour drive with the car from Vienna.
