2017-04-01  SINKING SUN OVER THE MOUNTAINS

I spent more than 2 hours on the observation tower Pyramidenkogel in Carinthia. My friends and my wife had already left the deck and were back to the ground sitting in the coffee bar. But I couldn’t resist taking these last shots of the sinking sun, with good reason, I think  🙂 During that time, also many visitors have left the tower, so there was enough place to use the tripod. However since the floor on the deck was built from wood, there were minor vibrations when visitors were going, so I had to adjust my shots and waited until they were at a safe distance.

2017-03-29  SKI SLOPE IN MAINTENANCE

Snow groomers are the maintenance vehicles for the ski slopes.  They start early in the morning to prepare the slopes for the first skiers, and in the later evening, they flatten the pistes from the days’ activities. It makes fun to ski on the traces left by the groomers. But be careful, that you don’t risk a collision with a groomer, like a friend of me did, you are the weaker part.  🙂

2017-03-25  SUN IS BREAKING THROUGH THE WILD CLOUDS

The most natural phenomenon you can see on the mountains, they influence the weather with wind and storms, precipitation and snow, and sunny weather with wild clouds. I seldom have seen such obscure clouds, looking a bit like an abstract painting. However, worth to take that shot on an alp in Salzburg  🙂

2017-03-22 LITTLE BOY SHOWED US THE WAY

This little boy was the grandson of our coach tour guide. We used the break for some food and a walk up to the peak of that hill with the little chapel. The boy took the lead and ran upwards, we had to follow and started to sweat very soon with that pace.  🙂

2017-03-19 SPA FROM OUTSIDE IN THE EVENING

Bad Blumau is a spa with hotel designed and built by the artist and painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The architectural style is unique, some other hotels and even motor service areas are constructed in this style too. The cool thing is, that you can go bathing outside the whole year because it is thermal water with temperature about 30/86 C/F  🙂

2017-03-11 AGRICULTURE IN LOWER AUSTRIA

I used the sunny afternoon last Saturday for some shots with my DJI Phantom 4 Pro. I flew up to the maximum default height which is about 100/328 m/ft to get a view of the full horizon. (Higher Height could be adjusted in the settings to 300 m or more).

These areas live from agriculture like wheat, sugar beets, corn, and wine. The land is mostly flat with some smooth hills.

2017-03-09 SPA IN STEGERSBACH

Austria is famous for its many spas. They bring you a modern accommodation, healthy food (often three times a day), sauna, solarium, swimming pools with thermal water, often a health club and body massages for the ones who want it. Many people take a stay of 3-5 days, a real recovery package which brings back some lost energies. Even dogs are allowed  🙂

2017-03-05 HOTEL LOBBY IN COLD WINTER

As I visited Velden in Carinthia I often did a nightly walk, where I saw this warm light of a hotel lobby. It was a contrast to the cold outside temperatures with frozen grass and trees, and white breathing air which came from our nose and mouth. For my camera this temperature did nothing, it worked perfectly. 🙂

2017-03-01 HOTEL ON THE MOUNTAIN

This spa hotel is embedded between rocks and conifer forests. For those who are looking for rest and silence far away from bigger cities and traffic, that’s the right place.

I didn’t stay there, visited the lobby only… From this angle, it was a good test for my DJI Phantom 4 Pro  🙂

2017-02-22 TRAIN BRIDGE ON THE SEMMERING

This is a bridge of the famous Ghega mountain railway over the Semmering, which was the first of its kind in the world. Planned by Carl von Ghega and built in 1854 it even exists today and is in full operation. A real highlight between the mountains and the snowy woods.
