2016-12-05 LOOKING AT THE SINKING SUN

Last weekend I visited my brother in the northern lower Austria region and it happened by accident that I could see that fantastic sunset. It was about minus 5 degree celsius, maybe that helped that the sky was absolutely clear. It looked like a glowing blaze on the horizon. I am happy that I had my Sigma 35 mm 1.4 Art lens with me  🙂

2016-12-01 DÜRNSTEIN IN THE WACHAU

Walk through Dürnstein in the Wachau and you feel like walking in the medieval times, the whole village is under monumental protection. It’s located in middle of lower Austria, directly at the Danube. There’s also a hill with a castle ruin where the king Richard the Lionheart was arrested. The area is also famous for apricots, you will get them as schnaps, jam or fruit sirup. And a blue church

2016-11-16 THERME AND SPA BAD BLUMAU FROM OUTSIDE

I like this kind of architecture from Friedensreich Hundertwasser. It’s lovely that inside the building this architecture gets continued. The lobby, the corridors, the rooms, nothing is really straight, all a bit rounded, it’s a pleasure atmosphere. There it’s always warm and you smell a good scent and then you have the thermal bath to relax.

2016-10-26 HOLLOW WAY WITH WINE CELLARS

This hollow way with wine cellars is called “Kellergasse” in Austria. Each of these buildings has a wine cellar where the wine gets ripe. When the wine is in the stadium of a must there will be a wine cellar party with wine tasting in those lanes. 🙂

2016-09-21 RAINY DAY IN SALZBURG

Nearly every time I have been in Salzburg it was raining on some days. At the visit on Mönchsberg my wife had to hold an umbrella for me, so I was able to shoot photos. But the good side of the rain is mostly fresh air and green, growing grass both I like  🙂

2016-09-18 CHURCH IN THAL

In Thal near Graz there is the most colorful church I have ever seen. It looks like a psychedelic wonder, the artwork has been done by Ernst Fuchs who is also a painter and sculptor.

2016-08-31 LITTLE VILLAGE IN THE WACHAU

The Wachau is a region at the Danube in Austria with viniculture where the grapevines grow on stony terraces, a bit like in the Tuscany. Around the villages are broadleaf forests and little hills with ruins form the age of chivalry.

2016-08-16 RIVER AND SKY

Two different views of the same river, blue sky and with grey sky. Mostly the landscape around the Danube is flat, it arises from the Black Forest in Germany and flows into the Black Sea in Romania. It flows through 10 countries and is 2,860 km (1,780 mi) long, the longest river of the EU.

2016-07-28 HOUSE DESIGNED BY HUNDERTWASSER

In Austria there is a thermal spring with spa und hotel called Bad Blumau. The interesting thing is, that the whole area and accommodations have been designed by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, this is a real unique style and a real pleasure to have vacation there. No rooms or hallways are straight, all a bit wavy and skewed …  🙂
