2019-10-08 THE SEA LION ON THE BUOY

I was wondering how it was possible for the sea lion, to climb that metal buoy. Ball bottom and extremely slippery, he must clasp the buoy with his power of the fins and pull up step by step. Anyway, it was a funny sight at the harbor of San Diego.

2019-09-30 SAN DIEGO INTERCONTINENTAL

My wife was working in her early twenties at the Hotel Intercontinental Vienna. Therefore, there is an emotional connection to this hotel chain. We give it a try and stayed two nights in Intercontinental San Diego, a top hotel, a 5-star recommendation from my side. On a trip home, I could catch a night-time photo with the Google Pixel 3 XL smartphone. With the “Night-Sight” modus an easy task, to get decent pictures.

2019-09-23 CACTI IN CALIFORNIA

Better not to touch the spines of this cactus. The field is in the middle of the Joshua Tree National Park and called Colla Cactus Garden; any first aid is far away. I stayed with photographing these unique cacti. There were hundreds of these at that place, but only on that place, while driving around in the park, I never saw these cacti again. The area looks so surreal; I thought to be on a faraway planet, like in a science-fiction movie.

2019-09-13 MY WIFE AT THE GETTY VILLA

We were walking upstairs from the parking lot, my wife Karin was already in the viewing area. At this moment, I liked the composition with the surrounding architecture and the Roman temple behind her. This was my first photo at the Getty Villa. The classical postcard shots crowd the internet, bringing new perspective changes gives your photos a new life.

2019-09-08 THE ALWAYS INTERESTING FREAK SHOW

Venice Beach in LA – a joy to go along the boardwalk and look at the little shops and restaurants. Even more interesting are the different types of people who walk around. They are often dressed in fantasy clothing, driving with spectacular bikes or showing cool skateboard stunts — a steady flow of a big freak show, free and accessible every time. No Burning Man or music-festival is needed, only visit, walk, and look.

2019-08-22 REST AFTER A LONG WALK

After a long walk in the hot sun, we saw the chair in an air-conditioned lobby. I left the place to my wife, Karin. For that, I was allowed to take a picture as compensation. 🙂

2019-08-20 GETTY VILLA

The Getty Villa in Los Angeles is built on the basis of Italian palazzos. The gardens, the building, and the entire complex are meticulously maintained. Many gardeners trim trees and bushes, cut off any excess branch — a continually renewing work of art.

2019-08-06 NIGHTLY WALK IN SAN DIEGO

If you plan a nightly walk without the hassle of carrying heavy photo-equipment, take a Google Pixel smartphone with you. It is capable of shooting great night shots and can be placed in the pocket of your trousers easily. One advantage more, your wife hasn’t to wait too long when you are shooting photos compared to a camera, where you are working on settings and composition much longer. 🙂

2019-07-15 HOTEL CHECK IN SAN DIEGO

I love hotel lobbies and service desks. They are the first point of connection between guest and hotel and at the same time, the command center. The styling and integration into the hotel lobbies generate again and again my interest. Often I am then with my camera or smartphone on the spot, as here at the Intercontinental San Diego.

2019-06-27 PINK’S HOT DOG IN LA

The moment I said to my wife Karin that I was hungry, we happened to drive past Pink’s Hotdog. I had to do another lap for a parking lot. Then I was finally able to order a HotDog with sauerkraut, mustard, and chili sauce. My wife was full after the first, I stood again in the series and ordered an extra-size hot dog.
