2019-12-13  BAD WEATHER AT LOCH LOMOND

In the beginning, I was annoyed that fog covered Loch Lomond. Then I could still take a few short minutes where the sky was thinning to take pictures. A short time later, the fog was back, and rain started. Now when I look at the photos, I like the sky with the heavy rain clouds. Almost every weather situation offers the possibility for photos.

2019-12-02  CHURCH IN EDINBURGH

I used the views from Edinburgh Castle to shoot photos from the city. This photo is one of my favorites, with the unique style of the church tower. I have seen this gothic architecture is a typical style in Scotland; many churches look like this.

2019-11-18 ASIAN TOURIST IN EDINBURGH

Google Maps is one of the most valuable tools for travel. Since the EU skipped all roaming tariffs, it’s a joy to search after the directions and follow Google for the way. How do Asian tourists use Google? I think they have to pay the roaming fees. So they have to pay a Sim card or search after WIFI hotspots at Starbucks and so on. But they can’t live without the smartphone, for sure.

2019-08-12 THE SCOTTISH CASTLE

The castle in Edinburgh has all the essentials of an old knight’s castle. Fortress wall, large, thick walls, fortified grounds, and placement on the highest point of the city. There, the fortress towers on the streets of Edinburgh, as a constant reminder of the great times.

2019-07-12 ESCAPE FROM THE RAIN

Sudden heavy rain drove us to the National Museum in Edinburgh. I was immediately fascinated by the extensive galleries and balconies. I placed myself in an upper floor, put the camera on the balcony railing and was thus able to photograph wide-angle shots. They show the impressive extent of the museum hall.

2019-06-21 WALKING AROUND IN EDINBURGH

Edinburgh is a great movie city. When walking through the streets, I think of many possible movie scenes that you could film between these walls. Centuries-old and historic buildings set you back in adventurous times.

2019-04-22 THE PARK WITH THE IRON HORSES

I didn’t know of The Kelpies before I was in Edinburgh. In our bed&breakfast hotel, I saw a brochure with a photo of these two metal horse heads. I knew that I had to see them immediately and take some pictures. It’s a drive of about 45 minutes in a park and adventure area called The Helix.  It didn’t need much time to convince my wife Karin; she was excited about visiting. Since the weather was not the best, we were nearly alone in the area. Of the many photos I shot, the wide-angle is one of my favorites.

2019-04-19 SUNSET FROM THE CLIFFS OF DUNDEE

On my Scotland list was Edinburgh, cliffs and a Loch. Edinburgh was easy, the destination of the flight. For the cliffs we had to go North, the first meaningful cliffs were near Dundee. First, the car navigation system brought us on a green field with a farmhouse and some cows, not where we wanted to be. Therefore I took the direction in my own hands and found the cliffs before sunset — the best time for photographers. 🙂  I had time to fly with my drone and take some sunset photos directly from the cliffs handheld.

2019-03-11 MUSEUM IN EDINBURGH

It has started raining on the streets of Edinburgh, and the next refuge was the Museum of Scotland. The entry was free and we a timeframe of one hour to explore before closing. The galleries over four floors impressed me. I thought about the composition, where I concluded that photos with a wide angle lens from a higher level would be appropriate. My museum tour was a photo tour also, with many shots of the exhibits and the interior architecture.

2019-02-06   THE CASTLE OVER EDINBURGH

It was home of the knights; big history has been made, it is the home of the crown jewels, home of inspirations for movies, a tourist hot spot, gets great illumination during the night, a must see when visiting Edinburgh, that’s all is Edinburgh Castle. Impressive the hard work, which was put in, to bring these rocks and bricks up to the hill and build that massive buildings complex.
