2018-12-26   FOR HORSE LOVERS

I was surprised, being in Edinburgh and never heard about “The Kelpies” before. My wife and I have seen it in a brochure on the breakfast table. Immediately the program for the day was clear. I stuffed all my photo-equipment in my backpack, and after an hour we arrived at the sculptures. The rain has stopped, only a few tourists, so I could fully explore and shoot these 30-meter-high horse-heads constructed from stainless steel.

2018-12-24   CHRISTMAS IN EDINBURGH

My wife, my kids and I had to wait in a long line. We needed tickets for an event in Edinburgh. I asked if it would be OK to walk around and take some photos during the waiting time. Soon I saw that Christmas-tree behind an iron fence. I had to set ISO higher, no chance to see a podium or parapet to place my camera since I didn’t have a tripod with me.

2018-11-23   BAD WEATHER IN LOCH LOMOND

My dream was to come to Loch Lomond with crystal clear sky and full sunshine. But during the drive, the more I approached to the Loch, the more the air got cloudy, and I ended with rain when I was at the Loch. The photo shooting took place nevertheless. Dark sky or not, I wanted photos from Loch Lomond. 🙂

2018-11-10   ALL TIME OF THE WORLD

“All time of the world” is the motto for a statue, nothing to lose, sitting and watching at the passengers in Edinburgh. The illuminated Edinburgh Castle brings colors on the picture; a scene which I shot from Princes Street.

2018-10-06   CASTLE AND KNIGHTS IN SCOTLAND

My memory is so bad; I remember entering that knight’s hall, but I’m not sure where it was. Scotland is full of castles, built with heavy stones, inside they give you back the reminiscences of medieval times. Maybe it was Edinburgh Castle, which should be on top of your list. I was there half a day, exploring and photo-shooting.

2018-09-16   THE CLIFFS NORTH OF DUNDEE

My visit to Scotland wasn’t fulfilled without seeing the cliffs. Since my mainstay was in Edinburgh, I took a rental car and went up the North until Dundee. According to my Google-search, bold cliffs should begin here. After a trial-and-error car-Navi faux-pas I could reach the parking lots where the cliffs start. And I wasn’t disappointed, cliffs with wild grass, the vast sea and the right dosage of clouds, all that I imagined for my cliff photos. 🙂

2018-07-25   COAST NEAR DUNDEE

I was standing on the cliffs while shooting this sunset. It was a lucky moment, raining stopped two hours ago, and the sun and the clouds showed a beautiful nature spectacle. For me it was essential to see some cliffs in Scotland, that was the reason why I took “the extra mile” from Edinburgh into the North. But it wasn’t so easy to find the access path to the cliffs, the nav brought me into the greenery to a farm, so I had some trial and error to reach my desired destination. Never give up, often it turns out satisfying for your photographer’s needs in the end. 🙂

2018-06-23   NIGHT SHOTS IN GLASGOW

I arrived in Glasgow at the later afternoon during heavy rain. It was only possible to go into the parking garage of a shopping center and take some rounds on the levels. Two hours later raining has stopped. I drove to the River Clyde to take shots of the modern, illuminated buildings. It took some tries to get to a viewpoint where I could place my tripod and shoot the photos of nightly Glasgow. The first shot was the Clyde Auditorium with its blue colors which lies like a big shell beneath the river.

2018-05-14   EDINBURGH THROUGH CASTLE WINDOW

Walking around in Edinburgh Castle I tried different compositions and sceneries at my photography tour. Here in the photo, I shot through a castle window with the city on the ground. Shooting from such high places replaces drone flying and brings you aerial shots without too much effort.

2018-05-05   CHAPEL IN EDINBURGH

I got the info form our landlord during breakfast. He recommended going to Rosslyn Chapel which would only be 15 minutes away from the hotel. Although it wasn’t on my list, I took planned the visit and was excited about the building. One of the top spots in Edinburgh, it was the chapel you can see in the movie “Da Vinci Code” with Tom Hanks.
