2017-09-20  GRAND HOTEL STOCKHOLM

Tonight we sleep on silken sheets
We drink fine wine and eat rare meats
On Carousel and gambling stake
Our fortunes speed, and dissipate
It’s candlelight and chandelier
It’s silver plate and crystal clear
The nights we stay at Hotel Grand  ➡ song text “Grand Hotel” by Procol Harum

For me it was only a visit at the bar  :-),  I did the photos a bit undercover, photographing at that location is not welcomed. Grand Hotel Stockholm has it all, butlers and concierges in uniform, waiters and bar tenders with a suit, bow tie, and tidy haircuts.

2017-09-11  HIP BAR IN STOCKHOLM

After a long walk, we entered that hip bar and restaurant in Stockholm. It was downright crowded, and we had no reservation, so we got only a less prominent seat at the window. Due to the large orders, the waiters were under stress, and we had already 2 Aperol Sprizz each until we got our meal, which was a finger food plate. After the food, we ordered Averna on the rocks with lemon slices, which is my favorite aperitif.

2017-08-31  COOL KIDS IN STOCKHOLM

You can use the Stockholm Pass also for a boat tour, (one of the many attractions included) so I did. There I saw those cool kids with sunglasses and headphones, listening and shaking to the rhythm of the music.  🙂

2017-08-09  ESCALATORS IN STOCKHOLM

Subway station in Stockholm? Or an abstract view which would also hold its own in a 1st person shooter video game, where you have to explore steel dungeons in dim light and search for an escape of the thrill. 🙂

It’s a hidden secret, that the must do for every photographer in Stockholm should be the visit of the artful subway stations, with the colorful paintings of the ceiling and the pillars, which I have already shown in some older posts about Stockholm. You have to click on the “Stockholm” category link under the picture in the blog got to get all Stockholm-posts.

2017-08-04  ASIAN GIRL IN STOCKHOLM

I was waiting for my wife, who was on a short shopping spree, sitting on a socket beneath a window, my photo bag resting on my knees. Perfect situation for doing people shots, I had my big and heavy Sony Zeiss 135mm 1.8 A-Mount lens with me and mounted it via the LA-EA3 adapter on my Sony A7R II. I did these shots with manual focusing, with the support of focus peaking at the mirrorless camera. My “boring” waiting time converted immediately into an exciting photo session.  🙂

2017-07-13  SEGWAY BETWEEN THE BIKES

Stockholm is a great city for bikers; there are some bicycle-lanes where you can see hundreds of bikers driving. And no restrictions for Segways, they cruise around in the whole town. Stockholm has all means of transportation, bikes, Segways, Uber, Taxis, subways, trains, ships, rickshaws and your feet for the last mile. 🙂

2017-06-29  GIRL MAKING HOT CHOCOLATE WAFFLES

This photo shows a scenery in the old town of Stockholm, where you can find many little shops and gourmet food stores. This girl was sitting near the street, with an open window and was forming hot chocolate waffles. There was an aromatic smell after sweet chocolate and crispy, warm waffles. The sore temptation to get one was even higher if you saw they were handmade.  🙂

2017-06-26  STOCKHOLM METRO STATION IN RED

It looks like a volcano is shortly before the eruption, lava permeates through the stone, it gets hotter and hotter. 😐 If I shut down my fantasy, it’s (only) one of the great metro stations of Stockholm. It was on our last day, where I said to my wife “We haven’t seen the subway station art yet, let’s go and have a look.” I googled where the stations are and here are the photos. 🙂

2017-06-23  PALMS IN A LOUNGE

A typical scene from the Caribbean? Growing palms in a lounge, with the hot sunny weather? In Stockholm you have lounges, but no real palms. 🙂  I had to go very near to verify if they are real, but then recognized the fakes. This bar was near the Vasa Museum, a place I can recommend if you need rest from some longer walking and sightseeing sessions.

2017-06-17  ONCE THE BIGGEST SHIP ON EARTH

The Vasa had a long building phase of 2 years but a very short life on the sea for about some hours, it foundered after sailing about 1,300 m (1,400 yds). The ship is a giantism, unbelievable massive wooden construction, many artful sculptures. But the superstructure was too big, that led to the inglorious end.
