2018-04-13   VIENNA PASSAGE

On the photo is one of many passages in Vienna which connect two streets. Often when my wife makes a shopping tour, at least looking-tour, I stay outside the shop and take some photos. This time I tried the fantastic Google Pixel 2 XL which is among the smartphones with the best camera and photo software yet. It’s also incredibly fast, good work Google !!

2018-03-24   WARM SUNSET IN VIENNA

Intense sunlight tinted the sky in a warm yellow color. The right time for grabbing the camera for a photo shoot. The location was near Schönbrunn Castle. I used the car-sharing service from DriveNow to drive around in Vienna. I got a Mini convertible which adds to the fun factor when exploring the city.

2018-03-17   INDUSTRIAL

Abandoned factory buildings which nowadays the owners use for events and rave parties are often good photo motives, different from the standard tourist hot spots. I shot the photo in the blog article in a brewery building in Vienna during a coffee exhibition. There were coffee variants to taste the exotic flavors and brews. For me an opportunity to try my telephoto lens which otherwise stays at home too often.  🙂

2018-03-14   MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY IN VIENNA

Although the entry hall and the staircases are looking like a magnificent castle, the showrooms are outdated. I think it was back in the mid-50s when the building of the interior took place. The same is true for the taxidermically prepared animals. However, it has some charm to walk through these rooms with the parquet floors and the glass cabinets. All looks antiquated but artfully.

2018-02-27   LIGHTS AT A BREWERY

I was out using my Sony Zeiss 135mm 1.8 lens, which I don’t take with me very often, because of the weight of 1050 g (2.31 lb). I was near at one of Vienna’s oldest breweries, named Ottakringer. These three lamps with their homogenous light cones attracted my attention. Holding my breath and some hand-held night shots were on my camera.

2018-02-21   EXHIBITION IN THE CELLARS

The Schlumberger cellars show you the history and production of their renowned champagne. There must have been used millions of bricks to build those massive cellar-vaults. The different stations of the exhibition show barrels, bottles in particular positions for the vinification and some funny exhibits like this bottle on a pedestal, which you can see in the photo.

2018-02-18   SHOP WINDOWS IN VIENNA

On one of my evening trips through the inner city of Vienna, I saw that correctly crafted shop windows. Such interior decors differ from the rest and are real art-pieces to look at. Always well for a photo which stands out from the traditional shopping street.

2018-02-12   MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

Some weeks ago I met with my brother and his girlfriend to visit a photography exhibition named “Mustangs in the wildlife,” presented by photographer Peter Baumann. I took the opportunity to make some shots from the museum halls, which represents a style like in magnificent castles. Taking the handrail of the balcony as a tripod replacement ensured that I could use low ISO in the dim lit rooms.

2018-01-27   VIENNA KOHLMARKT

Kohlmarkt, one of the more expensive shopping streets in Vienna. It connects the “Graben” and the “Hofburg.” All streets in this circle are a pedestrian area, so it’s always good for a short walk to look at historic buildings and drink an espresso at the “Julius Meinl” (on the photo left). And don’t forget your camera, some beautiful shots are not far away. 🙂

2018-01-24   CHAMPAGNE CELLAR

I live only about one mile away but never visited the Schlumberger champagne cellars before. I can only recommend it; it’s a great photographer’s location. Asking at the reception if taking photos is permitted, it came back: “Sure, no problem at all.” My visiting time was before noon, with only few visitors, so I had time and room for placing the tripod and composing the shots I wanted.
