2019-02-05   STREETS OF HONG KONG

I loved the action movies that were playing in Hong Kong. The streets with the small shops and Chinese characters, the triads in the dark streets, the Far Eastern atmosphere. This scenario between modern skyscrapers was one of my cinema highlights.

2019-02-04   THE THIRD VENICE

The original Venice is in Italy, the second Venice in Las Vegas and the third Venice, shown on the photo, is in Macau. There you can see the canals, Italian restaurants end even gondolas with gondoliers. The sky is always blue, the weather still fine and no flooding or dried out canals — nearly the perfect artificial city.

2019-02-03   MOUNTAIN SUMMITS IN SWITZERLAND

The picture shows the view from the Pilatus to the neighbor mountains. It was a memorable experience. We went uphill with the red rack railway, were exploring the summit with the dozens of hiking trails -and steps. There is an excellent restaurant with some original Swiss food. My wife Karin had even the luck to find an edelweiss. The magnificent view in all cardinal directions complements the excursion before you drive down with the red rack railway, what’s in itself is a little adventure.

2019-02-02   ICE SKATING IN VIENNA

In Vienna, every January the area around the town hall turns into an ice skating arena. This year there was even an ice floor with an observation deck to drive up. I positioned myself to capture part of the action and momentum. I did the photo with manual focusing, which worked out pretty well.

2019-02-01   OVER THE ROOFS OF BORDEAUX

The photo was shot from Pey-Berland, a clocktower in Bordeaux. My wife Karin and I had to wait about 45 minutes in the line. The hot sun burnt down, no chance to hide. Only a handful of visitors were allowed to enter. After reaching the top, we knew, it was worth the wait — a fantastic panoramic view of the city.

2019-01-31   COMING HOME

Is someone waiting for here? Anyway, she’s in a hurry, unlike me. I was relaxed, I had half an hour, waiting for my wife. So I was able to photograph the stressful people on the streets.

2019-01-30   DRAMA AT THE FALLS

All ingredients for a drama-picture, the falls, haze and fog, a rainbow, the boat in wild water and flying seagulls. I was standing on an observation deck as all those proceedings happened at once. It was on the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls, which offer a better view than the US. Some wet haze was also on my camera, but my Sony A7S survived without damage.

2019-01-29   HOTEL INTERCONTINENTAL IN BORDEAUX

Before I was in Bordeaux for the first time, I only had the red wine in my head. On the spot I saw how great the city was, long promenades, dozens of bicycle lanes, historic old town and hundreds of bars and restaurants. My recommendation is to borrow a bike at the public rentals and then explore the city.

2019-01-28   PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION II

“Pictures at an Exhibition” is a great song from Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. I had the joy to see a live concert from them, a rock band with classical elements. My photo shows the “Andreas Gursky” exhibition in Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre, London. The most impressive photo show I have ever seen, most of the pictures had dimensions from 4-6 meters in length and height. I would wish, there could be a steady Andreas Gursky-exhibition which shows the photos for the years to come.
