2018-08-16   CITY OF COMO

Como has a beautiful old town for walking around and chilling. Many restaurants and bars, shops with organic food, boutiques, and sunglass stores. At the lake, there is a promenade for exploring the view of the surrounding hills and harbored boats. In the middle of the city lies the magnificent Como Cathedral.

2018-08-15   VIEW FROM TELEVISION TOWER IN PRAGUE

The Zizkov Television Tower reminded me of the architecture in the Eastern European countries during the communist area. It was built between 1985 and 1992 and has a metal design with more levels as a viewing area. One of the highlights in Prague, it brings you great views in all cardinal directions, and you can see the city until the end of the horizon.

2018-08-14   SNAPSHOT OF A CANAL IN VENICE

Avoiding dead shot sceneries was one of my intentions when shooting this photo. I tried to get different angles and perspectives on remote locations. This canal was near the Riva Ca di Dio, which is one of the roads directly at sea. So many photo opportunities in Venice.

2018-08-13   CARS ON A WET STREET

The heavy rain caught my wife Karin and me. We flew into a historical building where we hid from the water masses. Inside we climbed a circular staircase until we reached the peak of the tower. There was a great view of the surroundings. I started to take some photos in the rain, no problem with a Fuji X-T1.

2018-08-12   INTENSE STARS

My ingredients for star-photography: a tripod, shutter speed at 15-20 seconds, higher ISO 800-1600, wide-angle lens and low f-stop, here I used 2.8. The photo was shot on a mountain plateau near Vienna, called Hohe Wand (“High wall”) where you have an unlimited view of the sky and no light smog of surrounding cities. The best receipt to get shots from a clear night sky with a vast amount of stars.

2018-08-11   THE EVERLASTING CHURCH

After a building time for more than hundred years, and a prolonged end in the year 2026, the Sagrada Familia is one of the world wonders. With its unique architectural style from Antoni Gaudi, it impresses spectators from the whole world. I used a 3-hour spare time from a congress to visit the interiors. It wasn’t easy to decide, what to photograph first. So I started with my entry point and made a step by step tour, where I made panoramas, wide angle, low light, root top-photos from all kind of angels I could imagine.

2018-08-10   A CHARTERHOUSE FROM THE AIR

The Charterhouse Mauerbach near Vienna was a summer residence of the Habsburg monarchy. My drone flying permission is Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm. That’s Austrian law; I got the permission from the Austro Control, which is the authority for all flying objects, from balloons to airplanes. I took that flight on a Saturday. Outside Mauerbach I found a perfect starting place on a plateau with natural, flat stones – my start and landing place.

2018-08-09   HOUSES OF STOCKHOLM

I took the opportunity of the bus stop at a red traffic signal to shoot a photo of the houses in Stockholm. At my three-days stay, I took a Redline-Bus for sightseeing. I am eager to get a place on the open roof where I have elbow room for handling my camera and lenses and be flexible enough to catch streets, people, and buildings. Mainly it’s also helpful to give your feet some rest from the hot pavements in the cities.

2018-08-08   SHOPPING CENTER IN SINGAPORE

The shopping center has a water-canal inside, an architectural marvel with top-notch stores and excellent materials used for the interior accessories. I was standing on a bridge which connected to levels and placed my camera on the handrail to avoid camera shake. I can give you a tip, searching after a tripod replacement bears fruit often. Bars and pillars are perfect for this but are careful with concrete when placing a camera; it can scratch your camera ground.

2018-08-06   MOUNTAINS IN CARINTHIA

I was lucky that I could shoot the landscapes shots in Carinthia from an observation tower called Pyramidenkogel (pyramid-top). That was a good substitute for a helicopter (much more expensive) or a drone (you have to search after a place where flying is legal). I could turn to all four cardinal directions for my photos. I could catch many shots with my tripod, but the tourists brought the wooden floor into natural fluctuations, where I had to be careful when to shoot.
