2018-01-03   PEAK OF A GLACIER

Only 5 meters missing from the 3,000 m (9,842 ft), with this height the “Hoher Dachstein” is the second largest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps. Skiing is possible the whole year; this picture dates from March 2017. The valleys were green already, with the first signs of the coming spring. On the mountain, peak skiing was in full force, with meters of fresh snow.

2018-01-02   A NEW MAD MAX MOVIE ?

First I thought I had taken the wrong exit. We landed between the film crew of a new Mad Max – movie. The barren post-apocalyptic landscape presented itself like in Mad Max: Fury Road. But these war rigs and monster trucks are food trucks of “Last Exit” motorway service station between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. 🙂  You can order a coke and some nachos and make a well-deserved break from your journey.

2018-01-01   CONCERT WITH SARAH BRIGTHMAN

The concert with Sarah Brightman was split into two parts. In the first half, you saw the performance of the Gregorian and special guests; the second half belonged to Sarah Brightman. It was terrific, one of the best chants I ever heard. Since (bigger) cameras were not allowed, I took my Nikon Coolpix A with me. Although a challenging environment for a camera, I tried my best. Aperture full open, shutter speed about 1/30 and higher ISO.

2017-12-31   HAGIA SOFIA

Hagia Sofia – a multi-religious building, was an orthodox church, later an imperial mosque. Inside, the sheer dimensions are overwhelming. You walk around, overwhelmed by the thinking about the great minds who planned and constructed that building. I took the photos with awe, and have been pleased that there were no restrictions for shooting pictures.

2017-12-30   BERLIN ARCHITECTURE III

The building on the photo was near the Spree, a river which flows through the city. I was on a hop-on-hop-off boat, where I could get out at the exciting locations. The area with those modern architecture buildings was a must for me. With the Spree river-trip, I had my Leica X2 and Leica D-Lux 5 with me, from time to time I like it, to restrict myself to a specific camera-brand or shooting style.  🙂

2017-12-29   HEROES’ SQUARE VIENNA

My youngest son serves military service for six months. He had the inauguration on the Heldenplatz (Heroes’ Square) in Vienna. I used the celebration to take some photos of that historical place. It was incredibly crowded, so I had to wait for the decisive moment for taking the shots I wanted. Patience is an essential factor in the photography world.  🙂

2017-12-28   MUSICIANS IN ST. GALLEN

Walking through the alleys, from building to building, from sight to sight, we came to the enjoyment to watch and hear an improvised concert from two musicians after entering a church in St. Gallen. I think those were students who practiced for an exam or was it the pure joy of music? Anyway, we took place and listened. Since the concert was free of charge, we added an extra to the general donation when we were going out of the church.

2017-12-27   TOKYO SHOPPING MILE

The modern, green architecture, trees and plants integrated into roof-gardens and decks, as seen on a shopping mile in Tokyo. Looks cool if roofs of this kind get illuminated in the night. One of the many photo opportunities you get, when walking through Tokyo.

2017-12-26   THE WILD LANDSCAPE OF PINNACLE NATIONAL PARK

After a two-hour walk uphill under 40° C (100 F), we arrived at the peak of the Pinnacle National Park. The path was full of stones and debris, I had new Timberland shoes on, which were wholly grey and dusty after a short time. But I can recommend the high quality of these boots, after cleaning they looked like new, despite these conditions.
At the peak, I took that pano-shot with four pictures. I tried to hold the camera steady and recalculated the overlapping areas. In post-processing, I merged the photos to a pano in photoshop, worked very well. The landscape appears rough and wild and reminds me of Western movies with Clint Eastwood.  🙂

2017-12-25   ART-HOTEL IN BAD BLUMAU

The spa and bath “Bad Blumau” was designed by the painter and artist “Friedensreich Hundertwasser.” On the photo you see one of the hotel buildings. A unique experience to sleep in such a hotel, no wall or floor is straight. The interior is colorful; all slabs on the walls and floors are broken and re-composited to a harmonious pattern.
