2017-12-14   THE HILLS OF THE ALPINE UPLAND

The alpine upland is starting with hills and woods. Then it transitions to mountains of about 2000 meters, where the real Alps have arrived. The mountain chains lead to the Grossglockner, the highest peak of Austria with 3,798 m (12,461 ft).

2017-12-13   VERONA CENTRAL PLAZA

As my wife suddenly disappeared (I think she got lost in a shoe store):-), I had time for shooting photos. I took my Sony A7R II waist-deep to get a new composition. The flip screen helped a lot. I could look from above down to the camera and could experiment with different angles. Especially the people even don’t check, that you are shooting photos. It’s the most unobtrusive photographing position I know.

2017-12-12  TOWER OF TOMB OF I’TIMÄD-UD-DAULAH

The photo shows “Tomb of I’timād-ud-Daulah” in Agra, which is often regarded as the little, draft Taj Mahal. I think in the western hemisphere it’s a bit complicated to spell it correctly. 🙂  It’s located in a prominent park area, with gardens and surrounding buildings built from red sandstone. You can get a combo ticket which adds the Red Fort and Taj Mahal. It’s worth to take it and visit all three!

2017-12-11  STILL LIFE AT A LAKE

Some time for meditation at a lake in Carinthia. Silent waters, dusk, and a little breeze. The right time for a Yoga session. I started about half a year ago. I had some problems with my lower back, due to my weight training program at Top Gym in Vienna. Yoga helped a lot, all pains are gone, and I am flexible and on track as I have never been before. 😎

2017-12-10  NARROW ALLEY IN MONTEROSSO

Monterosso is one of the five villages of Cinque Terre. The Cinque Terre walk from Corniglia to Monterosso lasts about 2 hours on stony and dusty sidewalks with great views of the sea. After arrival in Monterosso, we looked for a cold Aqua Minerale with lemon. Although I was very thirsty, I couldn’t resist taking photos of the Italian alleys and streets.  🙂

2017-12-09  SINKING SUN IN ABU DHABI

This photo was shot outside the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Often the sinking sun is a photographer’s best friend. I had a right timing with the visit. We arrived between blue hour and evening. My wife Karin and my daughter had to put on a scarf and a veil, which they got at the entrance. Then we were free to explore and to marvel.

2017-12-08  PAZNAUN VALLEY IN TYROL

With my permission for drones, I am allowed to fly in nature. The rule is the area must be uninhabited, thinly populated with only shacks and barns, some hikers around. So you have a large field for drone flying in the Alps of Tyrol. In the cold winter months, the battery lasts only for 15 minutes, half the time of the warmer months. Better to have two pieces with you.

2017-12-07  GREETING THE STARS

This picture reminds me of an album cover of a 70’s rock band. Intense colors and light effects. I did that “self-portrait” with the self-timer of my Sony A7S. During those night shots, I had to be careful, because 10 meters in the front of me, there was a slope of 100 meters (330 ft). 😮

KICKSTARTER PROJECT – COOL TRIPOD

My first try at Kickstarter, I found that attractive “The Most Portable Tripod ever created for Phone/DSLR/GoPro.”
Here the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/vixaritripod/the-most-portable-tripod-ever-created-for-phone-ds.

Let’s wait how this evolves and if it was a valuable investment.

2017-12-06  SINGAPORE ART

Suddenly the double-decker bus brought my wife and me into a busy shopping street. After 2 hours of bus ride, we decided to get out and walk around. I spied a Sony store where I could have a look at all the new cameras and camcorders. Outside I saw that metal artwork which reminded me of the Medusa (although there were no snakes).  🙂

2017-12-05  COLOSSEUM OF THE GLADIATORS

Walking around on the stages and paths of the Colosseum in Rome brought my thoughts to the movie Gladiator from Ridley Scott. The audio guide talked about the history of the fighting of gladiators and wild animals. The thousands of years old walls and stairs gave your fantasy a feel for the drama of those times. One of the most imposing buildings I have ever seen.  😎 I tried the pano mode of my Sony camera which leads to beautiful results if you can handle this feature. 🙂
