2017-07-09  DECISION FOR GARDEN OF GLASS

I had one half-day spare time in Seattle before my flight back to Europe. There were three exhibitions where I could enter, but time left only for one

  • Museum of Rock (I had visited it last year already)
  • Science Fiction Exhibition
  • Garden of Glass

Then the sculptures at the entrance of “Garden of Glass” impressed me and I entered. Fascinating, the gardens near the Space Needle were decorated and extended with glass plants, it was a mixture of real garden and glass.

Some plants reminded me of the planets in the television series “Star Trek”  🙂

2017-07-08  LITTLE CHAPEL BETWEEN THE TREES

This little chapel is placed neatly between chestnut trees; there are even some wooden banks and a small altar inside. Seen during a Nordic walking session through the “Lainzer Tiergarten,” a big green wooden area with deer, boar and occasionally some snakes.  My wife has seen one  🙂

2017-07-07  THE LONGER WALK TO RAINBOW BRIDGE

Going out of the nearest subway station to Rainbow Bridge(according to my calculation), I first thought the bridge would be right around the corner. But I deluded myself; it was about a 3-4 miles walk to get to the appropriate position for taking photos. Since my kids were with me, I heard constant complaints about this unprepared “journey”. Sometimes you have to take that extra mile for a photo. 🙂  And you are not in Tokyo every day, especially if you are European.

2017-07-06  MILLIONS OF BOOKS IN DIGITAL TIMES

Since I am converted almost entirely to a digital reader (iPad, Kindle), I was astounded of the millions of physical books exhibited in the Austrian National Library. I wondered if all of those books had been read by someone, at least they had been written and printed. 🙂 Many have a leather cover, golden embossings and are written in Kurrent. Even the building from out- and inside is fantastic, a photographer’s dream.

2017-07-05  SEATTLE FROM THE DUCK BOAT

After entering the sea in the “Ride the Ducks” amphibious vehicle, you get a nice, different view of Seattle. I was lucky, sitting directly at the window to take shots without much hindering. It was a fun tour; the tour guide was singing and making jokes, we were getting around the city and water canals and having fun shooting photos.

2017-07-04  BRIDGE OVER THE ADIGE IN VERONA

To feel more like an Italian 🙂 , my wife and me rented two motor scooters in Verona. It’s the traditional Italian means of transportation in cities, you can go forward fast, see very much and the driving wind gives a cooler breeze. During our explanation tour, we stopped at that fantastic bridge Ponte Scaligero over the Adige, where I did that wide angle shot.

2017-07-03  SHEEP IN THE NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands, that low country with endless fields of green grass, a paradise for sheep and cows. On my way to Amersfoort, I took some shots of these typical landscapes. Nearly every photo of this series included sheep or cows  🙂 A lovely scene.

2017-07-02  THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO

When I was a kid, I used to watch the TV-Series “The Streets of San Francisco” with Karl Malden and Michael Douglas. Walking through San Francisco 2 weeks ago was a bit of a reminder of that series. Taking shots with my Samyang 14mm wide angle lens was fun, and I think it’s great to use it in cities because you can catch such broad sceneries on the photos.

2017-07-01  RELAXING ON A PARK BENCH

After a scientific congress in the Orangerie of Schönbrunn Palace, I used the opportunity to take some shots of the surroundings. I packed my Nikon Coolpix A in my business bag; it’s light and handy and helpful for situations like this, where you have half an hour of time to shoot some photos, but you won’t carry too much weight. Since thousands of pictures of Schönbrunn exists already, I tried that different approach with the park bench in front. 🙂

2017-06-30  TREE SHOT DURING WALKING SESSION

On that hot, sunny day, we planned a relaxing walking session for a Sunday afternoon. What we didn’t recognize before was that the way went uphill about 4/2.5 km/miles, anything but relaxing :-). We arrived completely sweated on the hill, I was lucky, that I had only my Leica X Vario with me, which is relatively light. After my hands had been dry, I did a shot of that chestnut tree; it had an unusual form, the branches broadened up with height.
