2017-04-10  BREAKFAST ROOM IN VENICE

This breakfast room was so stylish that I wanted to take a photo in the evening when nobody was in there anymore, and I had time to place my tripod. The rays of these handblown lamps gave an interesting effect of light combined with the interior, the mirrors, and the greenish walls.

2017-04-09  RURAL VILLAGE BETWEEN CORN FIELDS

In this area of Austria are dozens of villages like this, a traditional structure with a community center, a church, old town, main street, a grain elevator at the village outskirts and country lanes between the fields. From above it reminds me of a model railroad layout.  🙂

2017-04-08  LIGHTING IN THE MOSQUE

During my time in Istanbul, I visited many mosques. It was completely new for me, I have never been in a mosque before. The decorations, the build, the mosaics and the lights, all fascinating. And nobody had a problem, that I took photos. It’s always the best to respect a different culture, and your behavior should be according to the rules.  🙂

2017-04-07  GLORIETTE IN THE AFTERNOON

In the first sunny days of spring, I took some shots of the Gloriette in the Schönbrunn Palace area. It has been built in 1775 and thus has a few years under its belt. Since it has gone through renovation several times, it is in an excellent condition and an eye catcher for a spring day.

2017-04-06  BRIDGE IN TICINO

Ticino is the southernmost canton of Switzerland. We stayed in Ascona at Lake Maggiore and occasionally took a ride in the interior of the country. At a trip to the Verzasca Dam, we spied that little bridge made of stone. The mountain brook below was so clear and crisp, that I tried the Kneipp water treading at a shallow bank. How brisk and freshening !!  🙂

2017-04-05  A WALK IN THE PARK

A walk in the park.
Away from all
The busy streets of my mind.
I seek a straighter path.
I seek a shady clay in which to unwind.
But why do we go on.
In spite of mistakes.
In spite of destruction.
Life can be fun
Depending on the situation.

Copyright by Nick Straker Band  🙂  I took this shot in the big park area of Schönbrunn Palace. There you can find these white statues at the forks, trees and bushes are chopped, joy when walking in this park.

2017-04-04  OLD MAN GATHERING SHELLS

Grado is this lovely city in northern Italy, located on a peninsula. There is favorable climate nearly the whole year, and always some activities on the beach, as here in the photo, with this old man gathering shells. I did the same as I was a kid, but maybe if you grow older, you get back to some habits of your childhood. 🙂 Or does he collect the shells for his niece and nephew?

2017-04-03  SEAT AND DESK OF THE EMPEROR

The last Austrian emperor died in 1916, during the first world war. In the Albertina, you can see some of his rooms, how he lived, with accessories and furniture. You get a bit back in history and a touch of the life of bygone eras.

2017-04-02  SWIMMING IN AGRA

After visiting the Taj Mahal, I went sightseeing in Agra. Near the Tomb of I’timād-ud-Daulah flows the river Yamuna. There I discovered that some men went swimming, since it was very hot I envied them for the cooling. Since it was near the sight, I thought it wouldn’t be a good idea to jump in this river as a tourist  🙂

2017-04-01  SINKING SUN OVER THE MOUNTAINS

I spent more than 2 hours on the observation tower Pyramidenkogel in Carinthia. My friends and my wife had already left the deck and were back to the ground sitting in the coffee bar. But I couldn’t resist taking these last shots of the sinking sun, with good reason, I think  🙂 During that time, also many visitors have left the tower, so there was enough place to use the tripod. However since the floor on the deck was built from wood, there were minor vibrations when visitors were going, so I had to adjust my shots and waited until they were at a safe distance.
